Iizuka wants to do more NiGHTS

In a recent interview with EuroGamer Takashi Iizuka of Sonic Team mentioned that he would like to make another game in the NiGHTS series.

This was translated on our forum from Portuguese as the English version of Eurogamer doesn’t have it up yet.

“Personally I’d really like to make a third NiGHTS game, but it all depends on SEGA.”
Said Iizuka.

Now, Mr. Iizuka… I’m all for another NiGHTS game but please take heed, there are strict guidelines that need following!

(After the Jump!)

1) It should play as close to the original NiGHTS: Into Dreams as possible. Playing as the children was a punishment for being slow, so nobody wants levels dedicated to playing anyone but NiGHTS…
(Unless it is Reala with the exact same game play!)

2) NiGHTS, the character should never, ever speak. This is a massive no-no. One of the biggest charms of the character was how mysterious and majestic it was. You will never have a voice actor or a script that can appeal to every NiGHTS fan nor will you do the character any justice so please just leave our flying purple jester a mute.

3) Every level should be dedicated to being as fun and magical as possible, one of the saving graces of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was when playing as NiGHTS in those great levels with great music it did feel as magical and beautiful as the first game.

4) I do not want to chase a bird for a key to move on! In NiGHTS into Dreams the ability to repeat the same stretch of level and improve your score over and over again was a huge part of what made the game so damn playable! Removing this feature in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams in favour of catching a big bird removed half of the fun of the original game and is another big mistake.

Now you have the guide lines go forth and create more NiGHTS. A game worthy of its title this time please!

    Thanks for the credit! ;D

I do agree with all your 4 points! Though I do not consider them absolute gamebreakers, those improvements over the Wii version would make a good game a great one. I would love to see that in the future.

    lol Iizuka

They were game breaking for me… I'm someone that can usually overlook bad script and VAs but it was hiddious in NiGHTs:JoD, not even the extremely forced British accents.

NiGHTS the character just was not likeable, all the mystery and uniqueness of the character went away as soon as he opened his mouth. Much like all the coolness of Sonic.

NiGHTS is begging for a digital rebirth. Get your shit together Sega.

JoD got the art and music right… That is pretty much where it stopped.

I do not know why NiGHTS needed a sequel at all. The first one was perfect for what it was, just port the original to the XBLA and be done with it. With the sequel they pretty much just had the wrong idea for everything else. Why would they remove laps? Why would they remove true 3D exploration throughout the whole level for the kids by boxing them inside small sections? Why add "Missions"?

Just an all-around poor sequel that was a pretty lame excuse for a game overall. Get Iizuka the fuck away from the franchise.
