SEGA says no to Sonic 4 for Android phones

According to the NPD, Android OS is the top selling OS in America right now. Given this sudden surge in popularity, you would think SEGA would want to port their big Sonic 4 game to the platform?

I guess not, according to Ripten, who spoke with SEGA employees in a recent Sonic Colors  event, SEGA has no plans on porting this game to Android. What a drag, no SEGA love for Android users. Maybe Google can throw money at them. God knows that Android market needs some good games.

  1. I think the problem is that Android is software, and not Hardware, so there are something like 80 different Android phones, and some are good and some are crappy. How could they guarantee it will run well, or even at all on all those different phones? then some reviewer might review it on the crappiest one.

You can make apps exclusive to phones, meaning if its too advance for crappy phones, it won't show up in the market place. Since the biggest selling phones are as, if not more, powerful than iPhone (EVO 4G, Galaxy S line, Droid line) that would suck.

I agree though, Android needs to get a bare minimum. I hear rumors that there will be a bare minimum specs for phones to run Android 2.3 (2.2 sorta has minimum specs).

Might have something to do with the fact that Sonic 4 is actually selling rather slowly on the iPhone. These markets aren't really all that friendly towards bigger purchases.

  4. One day SEGA will realize that Droid does what Nintendon't…
