Sonic Generations Gameplay Trailer Hits the Net!

I think I peed my pants a little.

UPDATE: Spanish site MeriStation has an interview with Iizuka. It’s subtitled in Spanish, but intercut with the interview is gameplay footage! Tons of awesome stuff to see here:

Iizuka does note that Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and others appear in the game. He does not say if they are non-playable characters or not, but based on the game description I’m going to assume NPC.

Oh my god, it seems like they kept the real original physics for the 2-D remake, I have also lost control of my bodily functions.

I would also like to add that when I was a little kid I used to dream about 3-D sonic games of the same levels I was playing then, this is literally a dream come true, it's weird.

    Wow…just wow

I cant believe what I just saw!

  4. Pao says:

Looks great, still iffy its not all 3D, but as long as its enjoyable I'm good.

  5. SOUP says:

    Holy crap that's awesome :O

  6. matty says:

Tubular! I like the level design, too.

  7. IGN has played it (bastards!) and gave their thoughts, lots of little details revealed. DEFINITELY give this a read if you want information on the gameplay: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1162323p1….

    *drools*

    That looks super amazing!

So this game is gonna cater to all fans. Really great. I still think it's kinda weird to have good pinball physics and unleashed physics in one game. In my opinion the classic physics are vastly superior, but oh well, preferences. I am kind of dissapointed though with one thing, and that is that they've recycled the unleashed gameplay. I wish they went more towards the direction of adventure style stages with more emphasis on exploration and stuff

    Other than that, fangasm

I really wanted to play with classic sonic in 3d envrionments. Classic sonic looks so friggin great. He looks so perfect. His animations at the beginning hehe. Really awesome

  10. CrazyTails says:

Oh wow, modern sonic actually rolls when hitting enemies. Nice touch. Finally boosting doesn't just make sonic hit enemies with his face. Always looked stupid imo.

  11. CrazyTails says:

I just need to say it again. Classic sonic looks so perfect! Sorry for spamming guys but it just needs to be said. Imo classic sonic's gameplay looks superior, but I like the variety of 2 sonic's instead of a werehog or whatever hehe. Now we just need classic tails !!!!

  12. Spam away CrazyTails! It's a party!

Yeah, I'm with you 100%. Y'know, it's funny, I was (and still am) a fan of Sonic 4. However, after seeing 2D Sonic in 3D functioning as he did in the 2D games… in an official Sonic Team game no less… It makes me feel… weird… about Sonic 4. Like, Sonic Generations seems to nail Sonic 1 gameplay (based on IGN's impressions) and yet, Sonic 4 Episode 1 did not.

I really really hope that Sonic 4 Episode 2 does a physics overhaul now, to match those of the Genesis titles, or else it's going to be very odd having two official Sonic games release. One is a direct sequel to Sonic 3 and feels off, while the other is a 3D title yet nails the classic 2D physics.

    I'm impressed!

  14. Last time a SEGA trailer excited me this much was JSRF.

  15. Ali says:

I love the classic Sonic, overall really impressed 🙂

  16. SMT_Xero says:

i would love to see a segabits list of "top 10 stages we want to see in sonic generations." maybe it will give sega some ideas also 😛

  17. Pao says:

^ That would make an awesome round table!

I wish to see Flying Battery Zone in HD!

  18. Fallout911 says:

The first level of Sonic CD would kick amazing amounts of ass.

  19. -nSega54- says:

Pretty cool trailer. Definitely looks promising, I love the visual style.

The "2 Sonics" thing still feels a bit…stupid and forced to me, lol, but I'll live.

  20. Fallout911 says:

Note: Sonic CD level 1 past version.

  21. Sharky says:

    That's really, really beautiful!

I tell you if the 2D levels play like Sonic 2 and the 3D levels play like Sonic Colours I will be in Sonic Heaven…

  22. Suzuki Yu says:

    my GOD!

this is super amazing, just like what i want it to be!

as i said in some other forums, there is a huge potential for this game to be the best game in Sonic's history.

combining the best of both styles really is a smart move!

and as everyone's saying they nailed the classic sonic really well!

  23. SMT_Xero says:

Hearing the mention of "shadow and others" makes me worry abit but as long as there not playable or have a big role besaide maybe side missions im ok with that. btw who else loved how modern sonics green hill music was more upbeat and fast, nice touch!

  24. I assume Knux, Tails and Shadow will appear in the same way that Knux and Tails appeared in 3D Blast. Probably as NPCs just moving the plot along and contributing to some sort of special stage feature.

I think they're saving Tails and Knuckles for Sonic 4 Episode 2.

  25. DCGX says:

HOT DAMN HOT DAMN HOT DAMN HOT DAMN!!!!!!

  26. F-D_M says:

Good Jesus!!! Exactly everything that I hoped, I'm all thrilled.

  27. upsidedown fuji says:

Wow! Looks pretty. I hope the game plays as well as Unleashed/Colors for Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic plays like classic CD or S&K.

  28. George says:

SMT_Xero, I did a list of Sonic Stages I wanted to see in Sonic Generations last year:

    AHEAD OF THE GAME!

  29. cube_b3 says:

They should come up with a better name than modern Sonic!

  30. What else is there? He's the modern version of Sonic. "Sonic of Now"? "Present Day Sonic"? I can't think of any that work better than Modern Sonic.

  31. But "modern" means 50's era, so he would be a post-modern Sonic.
