Famitsu Scans Reveal Chemical Plant and Stardust Speedway for Generations

The recently released issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu spills the beans on two hotly anticipated classic Sonic zones making their return: Sonic 2’s Chemical Plant and Sonic CD’s Stardust Speedway. The first is a full blown classic and modern stage, featuring the iconic yellow and blue paths and copper colored factories of Chemical Plant. Stardust Speedway will be the location for Sonic’s race, and possible battle, with the recently revealed rival Metal Sonic. The magazine also shows what appear to be the 3DS special stages, taken from Sonic Heroes.

After the break, drool over the scans!

Wait, if stardust speedway is in there… how ? :O Is chemical plant and stardust 2 zones in 1?

Stardust is the Metal Sonic fight, a standalone boss battle, and Chemical Plant is a stage like City Escape and Green Hill. I don't think either are connected however I'd guess that the Metal Sonic fight unlocks after completing Green Hill?

Across the zones/levels they have pretty much confirmed… they should have these
    Tropical resort
    Holoska (Cool Edge)
A level from sonic and the secret rings (maybe: Dinosaur Jungle, Sand Oasis, Evil foundry, or Pirate storm)
    Emerald Coast
    Ice cap Zone (sonic 3)
    Route 101
    Special Stages

    Bosses:
    B-3x 6 HOT SHOT
    Egg golem
    Ix
    Flame mobile
    Metal Overlord
    (just to name a few)

    Any others you may want?

Gonna have to disagree with that list. It's a little all over the place with a lot of 3D games represented and very few 2D games (Sonic 3 is the only one I see listed for stages). Also, I don't think a storybook game would take up a slot in Generations. Two ice levels would be a bit samey as well.

However I agree on Ice Cap and Emerald Coast. Both would be awesome!

Yeah I tried not to do that, but you also have to add the classic ones they already have confirmed.

Something that I've noticed is that the picky sonic fans aren't complaining on classic sonic having spindash, considering in '91 he didn't have spindash.

Also the modern city escape music sounds like somebodyat sega was driving by hillbillies playing music. then asked them if they want to make the song. He gave them instruments for the song and gave them a copy the song and gave them an hour to practice. Considering it kinda does sound like people are singing it with a some what southern accent. But, it's still a kick butt song

I think it looks fine, successfully utilizing many design principles, but I hope you're not judging art direction from these horrible images alone.

These HAVE to be photos and not scans. If they're scans, then the source has no idea how to use a scanner and properly balance the colors. There's way too much orange across all the colors, so I'd like to see official screens before slamming the color palette for looking odd.

It's Stardust Speedway, there's at least 3 things that make it different from Chemical Plant Zone in the scans:
    – The different kind of "roads"/ground.
    – The background buildings, while Chemical Plant Zone has several plant related machinery in the background, the Metal Sonic stage has buildings.
    – The lamp post in one of the Metal Sonic pictures, those appeared in Stardust Speedway.

  7. Crazytails says:

@Ezdo, so wait, are you implying that we're probably getting more zones than the 9 leaked ones? Personally I think it'll probably be just be chemical plant with some references to stardust.

    • Barry the Nomad says:

My guess is six more zones/stages by way of serving as the environments for rival/boss battles. As ezodagrom noted, the design of 3D Stardust looks a lot like the Sonic CD stage. You can elements like the lamppost and the ground and platform. I'll bet it's a full on Stardust Speedway complete with a remixed tune.

What I'm saying is that the Metal Sonic stage is not Chemical Plant Zone, it appears to really be based on Stardust Speedway. Now, will it be a race with the size of a full zone? Will it be just a short race? Will it be an boss fight? Who knows…

If it turns out to be a race with the size of a full zone, I wonder what they'll make with Shadow and Silver, especially Shadow, which fight/race/whatever could be set in Green Forest, or in Final Rush/Final Chase, or in that linear road where Sonic and Shadow fought after Final Rush/Final Chase…

  8. Crazytails says:

    @Ezdo,

That makes sense. Probably just for the boss fights indeed.

Damn, these screen look kickass! although the quality of the "scans" dose look like crap.
