Hey Kid, You Want to See Some Chemical Plant Zone Gameplay Footage?

Posted by Barry the Nomad on Aug 6th, 2011

You got it! From Gameswelt.de, and uploaded to Youtube by a Sonic fan (I can only assume) comes the first gameplay footage of Chemical Plant Zone, in both classic and modern flavors. Oh yeah, that means Chemical Plant music remix! These are only snippets of the stage acts, so those weary of full act spoilers don’t need to worry too much.

Thanks to forum user ezodagrom for the heads up!

    my reaction from the forums
“Chemical Planet looks Beautiful! it feels just like it should.
and i like what they did with the classic music …. superb <3 "

  • Sharky says:

I think it looks (and sounds) freakin’ awesome… Chemical Plant Zone was one of my favourite levels as a kid. I love the recreation!

The classic Sonic seems to have some really good platforming/multi-path level designs which is what everyone has been asking for, for ages.

Wonder whos going to be the first spoilt brat to post about how… Sonics top speed is .2 of a second to fast and his animation doesn’t take into account the weight of his spines, etc etc.

  • Waffle says:

The Modern Sonic part was sort of painful to watch and listen to (very awful music). Classic Sonic looked a lot better, though I am still concerned about how it plays and how the level design is. Otherwise it graphically looked as one would expect an HD version to, sans giant badniks.

I wanted to keep Chemical Plant Zone a surprise, but I looked and am kind of disappointed I did not wait.

I honestly think it all looks and sounds great, but this footage makes it so painfully obvious how out of touch Sonic Team is with average gamers. Look how many times the player tries to roll, but Sonic Team still ignore it’s inclusion and make it work so poorly. The modern stuff is way worse, look how often the player is not boosting and how confused they are about the section where you have to know to slide under, then slooooowly go under. Both classic and modern have too many sections where you have to *know* something is coming up to get past it, a problem I cannot believe Sonic Team is still having over 10 years.

Otherwise, I think it looks fine – Good even. I also really like all of the modern music they have made so far, just hate how classic Sonic only gets remixed tracks and not new ones like his lanky friend made out of plastic with green eyes from the Olympic games.

Noooo, people stop spoiling yourselves! You’ll regret it when the game comes out.

I think the game looks fantastic!!! My ONLY complaint or concern is that SONIC is too smal in scalel. They need to make him a little bigger. The baddies are HUGE compared to Sonic.

  • ribbitking17 says:

Why are the badniks 5 times bigger than sonic?

  • Arc Christelle says:

I don’t really think it’s being “outta touch”. I mean when you consider recent modern Sonic Titles like Unleashed-Colors It has a respectable learning curve. Not to mention going back to playing games like Sonic Adventure 2, and spending time mastering stages in order to get an A or an S grade. I felt that Cool Edge Act Two was horribly punishing and that whoever thought of that level had to be the office jerk, but eventually I played it to the point where I can get an S out of my first run, a true test of skill. It makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something.

    [Seriously though... Spikes+Water= Instant Death?!]

  • Crazytails says:

The badniks being large is pretty cool imo

  • Emmett The Crab says:

    Looks fun.

  • Suzuki Yu says:

i just noticed that you may able to turn off the buttons prompt display!
old videos of City Escape was full of those including the warning tag before any bottomless areas.

  • cube_b3 says:

Well I’ll be the one to say something negative.

The camera seems to have zommed out a bit in the classic section which feels odd and the level has also been stretched out a bit vertically which feels off.

Lastly the dropping bee is fatter then what it was and the ground enemies are larger than they were, they are most likely made larger cause the camera has zoomed out a bit.

(now that is what I call an odd complaint).

Although on a serious note I really miss the “Wooh, Oh YEAH” starting of the original City Escape, also I feel the classic section of the stage shouldn’t have lyrics it is a very nice 16-bitish remix of the track though.

Lastly I still hate the boost button!

  • CosmicCastaway says:

That looks spectacular! Loving the Chemical Plant remix with Modern Sonic!

  • unknown says:

I wish they showed the whole level and I think they could’ve done better on the modern chemical plant zone music. modern level design-perfect

  • fluffybunnyboy says:

Game looks fun, but I still wish they had chosen more interesting stages to revisit.

  • matty says:

Looks like Sonic is trippin’ balls when he is falling through the tube with the blue spheres. Trippin’ blue balls.

  • unknown says:

did anybody notice that classic didn’t go through those pipes in chemical plant

    @fluffybunnyboy
Hey chemical plant is a great one to revisit lot better than hill top zone. and don’t say emerald hill, casino night, or metropolis zone just play sonic 4. plus mystic cave had it’s chances but chemical plant is one of the most well known zone from sonic 2.
