Sonic Generations: Dreamcast Era Trailer

Coming from IGN is the latest trailer for Sonic Generations. This one covers the Dreamcast era. This time, we get a very tiny bit of Speed Highway to check out in both classic and modern. Now this kind of video I can handle. Not a spoiler-filled half-hour playthrough. Just a teeny taste of what’s to come.

  1. A Heroes stage without all the talking!? Sign me up! Also, Speed Highway looks like a JSRF stage, not that thats a bad thing.

    “Let’s blast through with sonic speed!”
    “Okay!”
    “Alri- (cuts off as the stage loads)

    Sonic Heroes was on Dremacast??? Really should be called 128-Bit Era.

  3. My reasoning, from my Dreamcast Junkyard post:

    To those arguing that the title “Dreamcast era” doesn’t work for two Dreamcast games and one multi-platform game, remember that the same year Sonic Heroes released in Japan, many Dreamcast games were still being sold. So of the same era? Sure!

  4. Trippled says:

    Keyword: Japan.

    But eh won’t argue. Don’t really care.

  5. They seem to be taking the Japan-centric route when it comes to dates for the anniversary. The action figures all follow the Japanese release dates (SA1 is 1998 and Heroes is 1993). I’m not bothered by Japan being the basis for release dates, as long as they remain consistant.

    Oh dear, they shouldn’t have put Shadow in that trailer, and not because I’m pedantic enough to think having the character in the game will ‘ruin’ or even impact the game in the slightest. I just don’t want to have to read coments by other people condemning the game because of it…

    Anyway, awesome trailer. Can’t wait!

  7. Since it’s the one high point of Shadow’s career, I’m all for it. Thank goodness it’s not a Heroes or Shadow (the game) battle.

  8. CrazyTails says:

    dreamcast era stages look pretty basic overall. 2 city levels that look like night and day acts of the same stage. Not forgetting the fact that crisis city is going to be the same with some fire and chaos added. Ah well.

    Classic era is the best in tropes obviously but they seem to have forgotten some of the better unique themes sadly. Twinkle park in speed highways place and hunting mansion in seaside hill’s place imo.

    these trailers are never any good. The clips go by too fast to enjoy them. Still, am excited to see how they handled Speed Highway. Here’s hoping that the dawn segment makes its return in some form or another.

    @sharky

    I admit that when I saw Shadow, I groaned loud and hard. No doubt others will have similar reactions.

    @RadRappy
    If people dislike the character that’s fine, I’m not a big fan of Shadow either. (Big and Blaze the cats are the only good additions since Knuckles)

    What I dislike is the whole ‘OMG, GAME RUINED, PREORDER CANCELLED’ melodrama that starts popping up when announcements like this are made.

  11. Body PRESS says:

    Speed Highway is one of the very, very few stages in Generations that I’d actually expect to see from a “Greatest Hits” collection of Sonic stages.

    Generations is more highly comprised of the B-Sides and album tracks of past Sonic titles instead.

    @Sharky

    I do not think as many people dislike Shadow as you are expecting.

    Now Silver, who is going to be in the next video… Yeah, that will get a lot of hate.
