SEGA Tunes: Panzer Dragoon “Flight”

Panzer Dragoon is my favorite video game series of all time, thanks in no small part to the consistently awesome musical score. For the first game, I had some major difficulties deciding between the full version of the main menu theme, or Flight. They are both superb pieces, and an interesting look at Panzer Dragoon’s musical style before it settled on a specific style in Zwei. The theme here is a bit more typical kind of orchestration, with horns, violins, and flutes, with some tambourines keeping a nice beat in the background. Not quite what the rest of the series sounds like.

Below the fold you’ll find the full version of the menu theme.

Yeah, this has “epic” written all over it. If you play this song to any of your friends who are not in the know about PD series, they’ll probably think it came from an RPG. The violins remind a lot of Skies of Arcadia.

What I like about the later games is the driving tribal beats that run throughout the soundtrack. That’s where the score really paved its own path forward.

Panzer Dragoon is one of my favourites too, the atmosphere of the PD series is beautiful. They have created a very unique feel, a ruined, melancholy and hopless world and yet so beautiful and the music compliments the setting perfectly.

The most beautiful soundtrack i have ever heard. To me , it was at that time when videogame music jumped into the modern area. I miss this serie.

I remember as a kid being astonished by some the wonderful CD-quality tracks in Saturn game. After years of listening to the chirpy soundboard music of the 16-bit era, it was quite the trip.

Sadly, I didn’t own Panzer Dragoon back then. My only experience with the game was playing a muted demo station at Toys R Us. It would be another decade before I’d actually get to hear its fantastic soundtrack.

Woa…I miss that age so much. PanDra’s OST is such a time machine that send me back to 90s every single time I listen to it.
