Panzer Dragoon Artist Jean Giraud (Mœbius) Has Passed Away.

French artist Jean Giraud has sadly passed away today at age  73. He died of cancer.  Jean earned world fame through his uniquely beautiful art style and worked on many comic books and films including Alien, Tron, The Fifth Element and even Star Wars. Sega fans will know his artwork from the fantastic 1995 game Panzer Dragoon released on the Sega Saturn.

Jean’s art was no doubt one of the biggest influences on the Panzer Dragoon series and went a long way in shaping its beautiful, melancholy world. I’ve personally always been a fan of his art, he created barren yet beautiful landscapes like no other. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Mœbius.

I liked the art of the Panzer Dragoon series too. It’s stunning what kind of surreal but yet appealing atmosphere a good artist is able to create and what lasting impression it can make. RIP.

I always thought Moebius teaming up with Sega made perfect sense. His style and vision are so incredibly cool, and of course will live on.

RIP. One of the most beautiful artstyles ever found in videogames. I really really loved the arabian/middle eastern vibe the panzer games always sort of had. The first game especially.

    Ah well… *sigh

What a great contribution Jean made to game art direction. When I first played Panzer Dragoon, I was so shocked and in ore of its beauty and detail. His work definitely had an impact, I think on the entire entertainment industry, so his legacy will live on.. RIP.
