“NiGHTS into dreams…” to receive an HD rerelease

Seems SEGA’s NiGHTS tease wasn’t All-Stars related after all. It is actually something much, much better: an HD rerelease of the SEGA Saturn classic “NiGHTS into dreams…”! NiGHTS fans have asked for this for years, and they’re finally getting it. The SEGA blog lists the following features:

  • Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Windows PC Digital Download this fall
  • Improved HD graphics and a 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Added support for leaderboards, trophies, and achievements
  • An optional Saturn Mode that will let players experience the game with the original graphics intact.

So, who is excited? It’s about time NiGHTS got some love from SEGA, and this rerelease is the perfect gift for fans of the franchise.

while the graphics do look better, they look upscaled, not so much remastered. I’ll have to try this out, since we have no idea what happened to rodea the sky warrior

    SEGA Heritage.

I wonder if there are more and more remasters to come?

Remasters are nice but what about new installments, Sega?

Anyway, I haven’t played Nights 1; wasn’t the biggest fan of 2 but I’ll be sure to give this a shot.

This looks like it’s a port of the PS2 version.

If it is, it should have a stick sensitivity option. That version of the game didn’t feel right.

If Christmas Nights is coming (DLC or not), it shouldn’t be gimped like it was on the PS2 version (no Sonic, for example). It didn’t have a “Saturn version” as well.

The music loop played right after the level select sounds awkward. It sounds like a fifth of a second was chopped off or something. (Yes, this is nitpicking)

And last, but not least, there was no 2 player mode on the PS2 version, put that stuff back in.

I hope whoever is working on this at Sega is aware of the problems. I’m looking at you nightsintodreams.com.

This is the best news I’ve heard from SEGA in a long, long time. Who else smells a Panzer Dragoon remaster in the future?

Looks at news. Pees pants in excitement.

Thanks a LOT Sega! Now I have to change my damn pants.

Seriously though. This is awesome news. Sega is really doing a great job at re-releasing their classic franchises onto digital download these days.

Please find out if the original soundtrack will be intact. This is really important to me.

I’m sure it will be. All the stage music was fully made by SEGA. Also pretty sure SEGA owns the rights to the credits music, lyrics and all.

Damn! I may have to do a Nights: Into Dreams review sometime soon.

Here’s hoping they rerelease some more classics. I may be shooting for the stars, but I’d love to see an American version of Deep Fear.

Well, on the one hand I am glad that this fantastic game will see a digital release, it’s such a lovely game / story and I can recommend it for kids – the music is also so beautiful (ex: soft museum!!) – on the other hand I already own the game for my Saturn, they don’t add anything new besides HD graphics and its tearful, childish (in a good way!) touch is kinda only suitable for children. When I was 16 and played this game I already felt too old. ^^ I might only buy it to support SEGA.

  13. SpandersP says:

As a SEGA nerd, I never owned a Saturn. I know I know…. So naturally I’m really looking forward to picking this up.

Own this on saturn and ps2, can’t wait to own it on ps3!

Haven’t played NiGHTS into Dreams in a while years ago. Makes me feel happy that Sonic Team included a Saturn mode. I hope they do the same for The House of the Dead 1 and Dynamite Deka. I wouldn’t mind seeing a english port of Sakura Taisen for PS2.

good day to be a sega fan!!!

  19. segaismysavior says:

Fantastic!!! Now I don’t have to emulate the PS2 version anymore. Hopefully they tweak the physics to better match the original, and go crazy with the Christmas NiGHTS unlockables.

If “fall” is anything like their “summer” release schedule, it’s gonna be a painful wait.

  20. Totally out of left field. I thought SEGA had all but given up on NiGHTS after the awkward Wii sequel. I am glad to find out that NiGHTS is getting the HD treatment it deserves. Looking sharp.

Now if there were a way to bring light gun era games to HDTV sets…

  21. Geed says:

With Sega being how it is today, I’d be totally fine with them just remaking old Saturn & Dreamcast games for XBLA and forget about making new games.
