Sonic Lost World to be “all new” says SEGA

Details on Sonic’s latest Nintendo-exclusive adventure remain scarce, with a single concept photo among our only clues for where the Blue Blur’s next journey will take him. Today we’ve received a slight bit of info courtesy of Sega of America President John Cheng, who divulged some vague teases to the Associated Press.

“With ‘Sonic Lost World,’ we’re going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun,” Cheng said. “In terms of Sonic and his friends, he’ll have his same friends there, and I think there’ll be some new ones as well. It’s not a reiteration. It’s going to be all new.”

We’re going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun”- John Cheng

Sonic’s last major title, Sonic Generations, was mainly a throwback, taking place in re-imagined levels from the series’ past and featuring gameplay similar to its immediate predecessors, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. It’s currently unknown if Sonic Lost World will continue to feature the same mix of 2D/3D Sonic gameplay present in those games, whether it will use the Hedgehog Engine, or whether it will be starting things entirely from scratch.

Sonic Lost World is the first of three Nintendo-exclusive Sonic titles, and it’s said to see release this year for the Wii U and 3DS. For the latest news on the title, keep it glued to SEGAbits.

  4. Regarding the “cut comments” – While SEGAbits loves a good argument, we will not condone personal insults, derogatory language pertaining to sexuality, or any kind of racial slur.

    🙂 Have a nice weekend!

  5. Hey neat, another Sonic exclusive I won’t be able to play. At least there’s something coming to the WiiU for once. Hope it’s still good for the sake of keeping that damn Sonic cycle broken.

Takashi did say he wanted to reinvent Sonic for 2012, it just got pushed to 2013.

Anyway I am disappointed as I wanted multiple expansion packs for Sonic Generations. I thought it was Sega’s Street Fighter, which could be updated and updated endlessly. Sigh.

I am dancing my legs off at the pure joy of “NEW GAMEPLAY”.

I’ll probably break dance out of joy once they confirm boost-gameplay is gone for good.

  8. K-Dawg says:

Hmmm… Losing the Boosting gameplay… well, it makes sense for an action-adventure game, so we’ll see how this goes. I’m just concerned as to whether there’ll be more playable characters. Not necessarily required, but optional.

  9. TrueBlue170 says:

“New gameplay”, huh? That sounds exciting – although I love the current gameplay, a change makes perfect sense after five years of it. Hoping Sega will come up with something nice and innovative and…”Sonic-y”, if you know what I mean. 🙂

And as for “new friends”…I kind of burst out laughing and commented that people are going to freak out at Sega. XD

  10. SkyBlue says:

I wonder if the “New” friends will be any more relevant then the current ones?

I actually don’t mind the likes of Cream, Shadow and Blaze, but they should do more with those characters before introducing new ones.

Nice to hear that the Wii U one will be unique too though!
