Here at SEGAbits we like to keep things focused on SEGA both past and present, but when a SEGA legend leaves the company to do their own thing, we like to keep you guys informed as to what they’re up to – especially when it’s a big project with some SEGA influences. While we love former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka, who left SEGA in 2006 to found his own studio Prope, his studio’s games really haven’t had the same impact that his works at SEGA had. Outside of Let’s Tap and Ivy the Kiwi? (the question mark is in the game’s title), Naka and his team haven’t done much aside from releasing several bland iOS titles. However, there was one upcoming Prope game that looked to be on par with Naka’s work at SEGA: Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii and 3DS.
Way way back in January 2011, we found out that Rodea the Sky Soldier was coming West, and days later a Japanese trailer hit with more gameplay details. And then… nothing. The game sat in “coming soon” limbo, with the only bit of news being the promise in June 2013 that the game was not dead. Today, we can both continue to confirm that the game is not dead and it has a new release date! Spotted in a Japanese gaming magazine and shared on Twitter, Rodea the Sky Soldier is due out in Japan in the Spring of 2015. The Wii version has been ported to the Wii U, and the 3DS version is still on the way. No word on a release for the West, but at least the game finally has a release date! More news as we hear it.

Cool! One picture is giving me a strong Nights feeling. 🙂
Nice post! Man, this game is on my list of waiting to release. Nice to hear it went from Wii to Wii U. Hope for a western release, I have been waiting to play YujiNaka’s latest! the flying is definently NiGHTS hopeful.
Nice to see Yuji Naka heading up a game that looks really substantial. Let’s Tap and Ivy the Kiwi? were kind of cool but not really the kinds of games you could sink your teeth into and get immersed in another world.
