This is Saturn Season 2 is here, with a look at SEGA’s 3D Control Pad

This is Saturn returns after an extended hiatus!

This time, we’re delving back into the world of SEGA peripherals, with SEGA’s 3D Control Pad for the SEGA Saturn. The pad was bundled with copies of NiGHTS into Dreams… and is often something associated closely with the Saturn’s legacy; but has it earned its place as part of the Saturn legend? Find out, as Tracker takes a gander at this old piece of kit.

This is Saturn is a video series created by British teenager Liam ‘TrackerTD’ Ashcroft, aiming to give an alternative and in-depth look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of SEGA Saturn gaming, all whilst maintaining a somewhat strong accent.

Liking the series, great to see classic Sega consoles get coverage once again.

I’m starting to get the impression that these videos are been embedded on this site to make up for the dearth of genuine Sega news, can’t be helped of course, Sega have barely done anything new for a long time, even completely avoiding E3 this year.

    • TrackerTD says:

Well, no. The videos are here because it’s some original content to provide retrospects; and they’re videos I enjoy making for the site. Not much else to it.

Even then, there’s still plenty of SEGA news, with the recent success of games like Alien Isolation and forthcoming titles like Project X Zone 2.

    • Barry the Nomad says:

Nope. Not even close. SEGAbits has had original content covering SEGA both past and present since the very beginning of the site. This is Saturn is not simply “embedded on this site” to fill in for a lack of news, it is an original series on our YouTube channel. Please don’t flip the conversation to gloom and doom SEGA talk. Any more off topic nonsense will be flagged as spam.

Great overview of the 3D controller! I scored one in a good bundle with the Panzer Dragoon games. And good noting that analog controllers go way back. In fact I had an analog joystick for the Apple IIe in the early 80s. I believe the joysticks for the Atari 5200 were analog as well. I’m sure there were many others in those olden days.
