SEGA Games CEO talks about fan reactions to his Famitsu interview

If you missed it, Haruki Satomi the newly elected CEO of SEGA Games Co. (he was hired on April 1st) did a Famitsu interview where he talked about how SEGA has released software in the last 10 years that he felt betrayed fan’s trust in the brand. Says he believes quality Japanese games can sell in the West and among other comments that lots of SEGA fans across the globe agreed with.

Haruki Satomi obviously has been getting e-mailed by media about those comments and he sent the following message to Siliconera.

“Seeing our fans across the world respond to our recent interview with Famitsu, lets us know we’ve made the right first step in acknowledging who we are and where we want to be. Sega is dedicated to bringing you quality gaming experiences and becoming a brand you love and trust again,”

During the Famitsu interview, he said that they had a game to announce at Tokyo Game Show later in September, this will be one of the first glimpse at where Satomi wants to take SEGA in the future. So what do you think about his comments? Let us know what you think about his comments by leaving a comment in the comment box below (yo dawg).

It’s a refreshing remark for sure and I’m excited to see what the future holds in store ( especially the Dreamcast 2 ;] )

  2. Trippled says:

How about a podcast with Mr. Satomi…lol

  3. bertodecosta says:

From Siliconera page, “Atlus USA has already been directly working with Sega’s titles including helping with public relations for Tembo the Badass Elephant” <– Wut ??? Really ???

  4. @keeppassingcars says:

Surely they’ve got to announce the HD versions of Shenmue at TGS?

  5. Retroman says:

I’d like to see forgotten series like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Shinobi make a comeback.

    • fernandeath says:

I’m surprised to see Retroman wants Retrogames 😛
But I agree, I’d like to see those games getting new versions (not a re-release for the 100th time)

    • Monty says:

I heard that Sega is making multi-media content with such old franchises. Don’t know about games, though.

    • sonictopfan says:

Aside from the PS2 games, Shinobi got a retro-styled 3DS game not long ago, as for Golden Axe I don’t suppose you liked Beast Rider and I agree, but what about Vectorman and Ristar? Or a new installment in the forgotten Dreamcast era games like Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, even House of the Dead?

  6. Nathan says:

If the only game they showed up to TGS with was Shenmue HD, I’d be jumping for joy.

  7. Monty says:

    I’d rather see something new.

  8. Kevin-N says:

Yakuza is quality in my opinion, but they wait to long to release it in the west. Where is Yakuza 5 ? And why only digital, i want physical for my collection !

  9. goal says:

Basically he needs actiond. I dont believe a word.

  10. CrispX says:

Just give the fans what they want!
Release JSRF HD on Steam No remakes!
And will leave sega alone. (That is a big promisse!)

  11. ScruffyMcBoogerBalls says:

Wow, glad somebody at SEGA has been payin attention. Bring back old franchises like Panzer Dragoon, After Burner, Outrun and Streets of Rage! Oh and JSR :p

  12. sonictopfan says:

Actions speak louder than words, September is a month away from now, let us see what they got in their sleeves, I’m afraid I can’t take SEGA’s words I have to see for myself to believe they want to put more effort on their games.

    • SkyBlue says:

      Agree with SonicTopFan.

Unless they have something to show at TGS, we’ve all been here before with other people from SEGA telling us they’re considering getting better relations with the West.

In order for changes to be made, you have to start from the top.

  13. Shamagus says:

I really hope they completely learned from their past mistakes, and bring some better franchises out of their dusty attic. I am looking at you Alex Kidd, Shining Force, Eternal Champions, Lunar, Altered Beast, Landstalker, Warsong, Ecco, Jet Set Radio, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon, Space Harrier, Wonder Boy. Tired of seeing 5 Sonic games release every year.
