Phantasy Star Online 2 coming to Playstation 4

PSo2 PS4
That is right, it has just been announced via a live Phantasy Star Online 2 stream via NicoNicoLive that Phantasy Star Online 2 will be coming the the Playstation 4. Not only that, the Playstation 4 build will be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (which starts next month!). Ironically enough, the Playstation 4 build of the game will co-launch with ‘Reborn: Episode 4‘ game update.

When can you play sweet, sweet Phantasy Star Online 2 on your shiny new Playstation 4? If you live in Japan, sometime in 2016 and around the same time that Reborn: Episode 4 launches. What type of content does Episode 4 have? We don’t know the details yet, but we shall keep you updated on this blog when we find out more.

What about many of us that don’t live in Japan? Tough luck, SEGA hasn’t announced plans on bringing it West. Though, if they really want the game to be reborn, maybe releasing the game world wide will do that… just a thought, you know?

If SEGA West doesn’t announce a western release when this hits PS4 in Japan, then it’s never happening — FOR REAL this time! I can’t imagine a better opportunity. It would actually make sense if they held off mentioning anythings if they were planning for this.
Eh, who are we kiddin’? They’re not doing it. Kill all hopes now to save face.

Does anyone know if Sega lacks the common sense to bring this to the west, if any other publisher’s have shown interest? I know Sega said they were going to bring over the PC version but never did. Did any other publishers try to get the rights to do it themselves?

If not, maybe Atlus’s infuence will wake Sega of America up and get them to think about it. This is ridiculous that we don’t even get the Phantasy Stars over here anymore. The 8 and 16-bit games are classic and PSO was groundbreaking. This franchise is just as much “Sega” as Sonic is. PSO 2 on PS4 worldwide is an easy decision. Obviously a lot of us would prefer a retail release, but if Sega is concerned about costs and profit, at least release it digitally.

Why can NIS, Atlus etc… market and release niche games in the west but Sega of America aren’t capable of doing it?

I tell you now. The PS4 is a raving success in the West and we’re seeing Japanese games announced every week.

If this doesn’t come over to the West, then SEGA are literally leaving money on the table, and probably burning it like the Joker saying “This isn’t about the money”…

It’s now or never for SEGA to mean what they say, or else they’ll just be a relic like Atari.

Honestly, if they announce a western release, or at least hint at it, they’re basically burning money…
