Bayonetta 2 standalone re-release hits retail February 19

bayonetta-2.jpgSeems that Bayonetta 2 became a highly wanted game after they announced that she will be coming to Super Smash Bros later this year.

Nintendo will re-release Bayonetta 2 as a stand alone version, which means it won’t come with the first Bayonetta (which is available as a stand alone as well, just digitally). But it will cost half the price, at $29.99. If you can find a copy used at your local GameStop, it will run you around $30 dollars as well but come with both games. Good luck with that one.

Game was awesome, a huge improvement over the original.

Fans definitely should have played it already, but it’s nice that they’ll be given another chance, I s’pose.

  2. I bought this for $40 used at a retro game shop just a week after the Smash Bros announcement, new copies of the game w/1&2 had sold out almost everywhere and used were selling for $80+ on ebay. I know, I’m an asshole for not buying it day one, but my backlog of games to play was too long as is.

I can’t believe the original dual release is going for so much. I don’t have a WiiU, so I haven’t bought it, but now I’m still regretting not buying it.

I feel bad for buying used, as I want to support the IP and whatever share SEGA has invested in the game, but it was nigh impossible to find with 1&2 new. As happy as I am that the game is selling better following that Smash Bros announcement, it does sorta annoy me that it takes Smash Bros to get people to buy an amazing game. Not to mention, Bayonetta wipes the floor with Smash Bros in every area. Who knows, maybe Smash players will try Bayonetta and realize what real action combat feels like.

Surprised you didn’t pre-order it given the bundle was going to be in limited quantities.

      Don’t knock it.

it took Smash Brothers to make FE the smash hit in the states that it is today as well. You can’t expect people to spend 60$ on a game that Sega barely advertised back when it came out. This kind of stuff can do amazing things for a franchise.

What I’m getting at is this development may be what gets us B3 in the end.

If you guys are still on the hunt for a new copy of Bayonetta 2 with 1 bundled in, check and see if your local Target has it. Here’s a nifty site that can help you locate it, but make sure to call ahead:

The DPCI code for Bayonetta 2 is 207300051. Good luck.

So it really is a Nintendo IP now and not Sega’s anymore?
How’d Nintendo be able to re-release the Sega original if it wasn’t?

Probably for the best tbh, as if it stayed with Sega, there’d be no such thing as Bayonetta 2.

    • George says:

No. SEGA owns the IP, Nintendo funded and published the game. So it means that SEGA licensed and approved of them using their IP and they get X amount of cash out of it. A good example is Ninja Gaiden 2, Microsoft funded and published the game but Tecmo owns the IP.

When they wanted to release it on Playstation 3 they had to rebuild the game from the ground up and call it ‘Sigma’, while Microsoft can’t make their own Ninja Gaiden because they don’t own the license. They will have to ask Tecmo to approve a new game.

So if SEGA wanted to bring Bayonetta 2 to new consoles, they probably could, but will have to remake the engine and give it a different name.

But in the end it depends on the contract SEGA signed.

^That said, something like that happening is incredibly unlikely and I totally recommend Bayonetta fans purchase Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U if they haven’t already if they’d like to see the series potentially continue.
