Nintendo 3DS RPG 7th Dragon III Code: VFD announced for summer 2016 Americas release

The localizations keep on coming! SEGA has just announced that the Nintendo 3DS dungeon crawling RPG 7th Dragon III Code: VFD will be receiving a physical release in the Americas. The original game released in Japan on October 15, 2015, while the localized release is set for a summer 2016 release. Not too bad a gap!

The 7th Dragon franchise has been a Japan-exclusive series, releasing to handhelds like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. 7th Dragon III Code: VFD is the franchise’s third main series title and the franchise’s first appearance on the 3DS as well as the first title to receive a western release. If you’re afraid jumping into the third game in the series will leave you lost, don’t worry. SEGA knows that too, as their press release specifically mentions that the game is a “self-contained episode”. The game will retail for $39.99/CA$54.99 and, as mentioned, will be a physical release (feels so good to type that). No word on Europe yet.

Check out the trailer above, and more information about the game and screenshots after the break!

  • A bleak world and engaging story – The year is 2100, dragons have invaded Earth and are ravaging the human race. As the protagonist, players must team up with “video game company” Nodens Enterprises to become a dragon hunter and save the universe.
  • Unique settings and time periods – Fortunately for humanity, Nodens Enterprises has found the key to tip the scales in favor of mankind. The protagonist must travel through time to three different eras — the mythical kingdom of Atlantis, futuristic capital of the land of Eden, and present-day Tokyo — in order to defeat the True Dragons and stand a chance against the most powerful one… the 7th Dragon: VFD.
  • A deep party system and character customization options – All characters are completely customizable from the get-go. Players will be joined by two squad members in the field, and have up to nine characters in their party. With eight classes (such as Samurai, God Hand, Rune Knight, and more), 40 voice options, and 96 appearance options, gamers will have plenty of options to develop the perfect dragon hunting team.
  • Base building with Nodens Enterprises HQ – Fighting dragons is tough work, but at least the team can recuperate at HQ where they can develop skills, collect side quests, and even go on dates. In addition, more floors such as a library, skylounge, and cat café can be added in order to improve HQ. Yes, you read that correctly, it sayscat café.
  • Lots of dragons! – Although there are a variety of enemies to fight, it would be wise to be prepared for the myriad dragons you’ll face. It’ll take careful planning and strategy to defeat these dragons, so choosing the right squad — and right look — is paramount!

are you kidding me? YES. YEEEEEEES

Atlus is rubbing off on our boys in all the right ways

  2. Djawed says:

I always wanted to play the psp game so much.

Isnt this the first 7th dragon game coming to west?

    • Aki-at says:

Yes, but it’s the 4th one in the series.

It could also be the last one sadly.

    • Third main series title, they had one spin-off. They also never really had a solid dedicated device for the series. Sort of reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles in that regard.

Though I’ve noticed that when its on 3DS, SEGA are far more likely to localize than if it is on say PSP or Vita. Which, I totally understand, because Sony’s handhelds really didn’t set the world on fire.

  3. Aki-at says:

And people like, totally doubted Haruki.

The chosen sempai to rule them all.

  4. Monado says:

Man barry. Maybe you are right man. These games keep on coming. And this is coming from a sceptic guy

  5. fernandeath says:

    I’m impressed
I’ll finally have the chance to play this game.

  6. Nei says:

    Yay!
Is Rieko Kodama involved in this in some form? I will support it anyway, looks right up my alley.

  7. Shinobi100 says:

If you look at the top selling games in America today, they’re all action games. Uncharted, Halo, Call of Duty, Madden, GTA, Smash Bros. If you look at all the top selling SEGA Genesis games, they were all action games. Sonic, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat.

Nobody in America besides uber nerds (no offense if you are one) likes RPGs. SEGA go back to making action games. Clones of mainstream action games. Sonic is a faster Mario. Streets is a flashier Final Fight. And Shinobi is Ninja Gaiden with more atmosphere. Copying isn’t a bad thing as long as you improve on the original.
