New Shenmue 3 teaser trailer finally released

With Gamescom going full swing tomorrow, PlayStation youtube channel has released a teaser trailer (And the first trailer since the project was announced way back!) for Shenmue 3. Featuring predominantly Ryo and Shenhua, we get to see the trailer kick off from where Shenmue 2 finishes and some delightful enviroments are showcased. I must admit for the budget of over $6 million, that is some fine looking areas the team have come and I can’t wait to get the chance to explore them. Let’s hope we get to see more of the game with Gamescom opening to the public tomorrow!

What did you think of the trailer? Comment below with your thoughts!

Looks nice, real nice! I can’t wait!

    It’s about time.

Anybody know if it’s common to add facial emotions and motion capture in the final tweaking stages? I’m guessing that Ryo’s constant stoic look is a result of that process not being completed yet, but I’m no VG production manager — thoughts?

Yes, it is. Most likely they haven’t even recorded any voice actors yet, and that process will happen once the voices are in place.

  4. Cherok says:

People on the Kickstarter page were so freaked out, but we’re trying to be as polite as possible in asking “I understand that Ryo is stoic, but should be maybe be a *little more expressive?”. Haha

MasterChan777 at shenmuedojo.com has translated and summarized a Game Watch Japan interview with Yu Suzuki that mentions this:

The released Shenmue III teaser footage is real-time in-game graphics.
All character models are temporary and subject to change.
Facial animations were initially implemented but have been removed about a month ago.

…among other interesting info. I don’t want to cross-post the entire thing but head on over to the Dojo to read more.

I think the backgrounds look absolutely fantastic. Not a fan of Ryo and Shenhua’s character models, but here’s hoping they take the feedback and improve on them.
