Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove to be self published, releasing this year

Funded back in March of 2015, Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove promised not only the return of the aliens from Funkotron, but a return of the 2D gameplay style fans loved from the original game. It has been a long road to release, with the expected Kickstarter delays and the announcement of Adult Swim Games publishing. But the latest update reveals that the game will no longer be published by Adult Swim Games.

The reason was that Adult Swim Games had other big titles planned for this summer. Back in the Groove was pushed back, and both parties agreed that it made sense for Adult Swim Games to hand the reigns back to developer Humannature Studios rather than taking a chance on the game being pushed back any more.

Also confirmed is that the game will be releasing in 2018! Fall is the most likely release date. A closed beta is planned to run from July 5th to July 19th for backers at the $60 tier.

We interviewed Greg back when the campaign kicked off in 2015, which you can listen to below. We hope to have him back on once the game releases to talk about the long road of development and the final product!
