Seeking Art Submissions: Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog charity fanzine seeks to help Robotnik designer Milton Knight

For those who don’t know, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog character designer Milton Knight – who is famously known for creating the design of Robotnik for the series – had fallen on hard times in 2018 with an eviction from his longtime home, which itself was riddled with substandard living conditions. In 2019, things got worse as Milton was a victim of a hate crime and was assaulted. I personally have had a long history with Milton, purchasing some art from him ten years ago which led to a correspondence where we discussed his work on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, my personal favorite Sonic cartoon, and his art.

In an attempt to raise funds for Milton in his time of need, a fan named Harper plans to release a charity fanzine (fan made magazine) of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog inspired art. Harper tells me that he is “attempting to unite the talented artists as a force of good to create an AOSTH-themed Zine” and that “proceeds from this zine will be donated to Milton Knight’s gofund me”. The submission details, also found after the break, can be seen here: https://aosthzine.tumblr.com

As a fan of Milton and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, I urge other fans to spread the word of the fanzine. Best of luck to Harper and his efforts!

RULES & GUIDELINES:
Submission open on the 3rd of June and close on June 30th. No further submissions will be accepted after the deadline – should not enough submissions be made, an emergency extension may happen (something I’d like to avoid).
Work submitted must fit of a width of 1594 and a height of 2323 pixels. I have included an example image here. Artwork submitted that does not fit will be resized, so please make sure your work fits to avoid any potential disappointment.
All work submitted MUST be your own. For that reason I must ask you not to upload it to any other websites – otherwise I have no means of telling if it is truly your own work. Please include some form of signature or watermark on your work. Email your work directly to me at Katsune2000@gmail.com under the subject “AOSTH Zine”, please also include the name you wish to be credited as (if you do not I will assume you do not want you name credited) and a means contacting you online should I need to.
By submitting your artwork to this zine you agree to its usage and potential sale – All profits will be donated to Milton Knight’s gofundme. After the deadline of June 30th has past feel free to display your work on the site of your choice.

Psychical copies of the zine will be sold via Lulu and I’m looking into a digital version for people who don’t want to pay shipping costs. At least a week will be spent proofing the zine before sale.

Even if you don’t have an artistic bone in your body you can still help via spreading the word about the zine.
If you’d prefer to make a donation to Milton Knight directly his gofundme can be found here.

The artist who created that painfully awful Robotnik design fell on hard times? Why does that not surprise me?

    • ikagura says:

That’s kinda mean to say that someone who made a fictionnal character design deserved to get assaulted

    • Robbie says:

I didn’t say anything about the hate crime, I was talking about the fact he fell into hard times prior to that. That fact implies he was lacking on talent, which didn’t surprise me after seeing his work on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

    • Barry says:

Hey Robbie, that was an incredibly insulting thing to type. I know it’s easy when you’re hiding behind a computer screen but I just hope you never experience the things Milton experienced and I hope you learn to become a better person.

    • Robbie says:

See my response to ikagura. Unless you meant that I shouldn’t criticize his work at all. In which case I’m sorry, but I don’t see why I should sing praise for someone whose work only makes me see him as talentless hack. His work on Sonic was terrible IMO, and did more harm than good to the franchise as far as I’m concerned, with SoA forcing that craptacular Robotnik design into the western box arts and Sonic the Comic. And I say that as someone who was introduced to the Sonic series through AoStH.

    • OriginalName says:

Nothing that you wrote in your response to ikaruga invalidates what Barry said. I don’t know anything about your background so I won’t make any assumptions, but it’s obvious to most people that this is not the proper forum or context to kick a decent man when he’s already down, no matter how you feel about his work. He never hurt anyone, whether you’re a fan of him or not. If you want to critique his work, fine, but not here and not now.

    • PEDRO FERREIRA says:

And as someone who was introduced to Sonic through the AOSTH you couldn’t be more wrong. But ignorance must be bliss…

    • PEDRO FERREIRA says:

Ignore him Barry. Robbie couldn’t understand good art it it sat right in front of him. A lot of ignorant people like him have a go at the animation of the cartoon series because it doesn’t look like every other cartoon from that time. They don’t understand its supposed to look simplistic and weird. This allows not only an easy time for animators but also gives the cartoon its own identity on purpose to make it stand out (the writing as well) because why would you want your cartoon to look generic?

  2. Fred says:

Not Trying to be rude But from an artistic standpoint his art isn’t very good sadly, His anatomy is really off. I know it’s suppose be exaggerated but his art comes off as stiff and awkward. I also don’t think what Robbie wrote was that offensive, it’s just his opinion and if your going to put your art out there you have to be ready and willing to take good critique’s as well as the bad especially if you want to improve as an artist. I do feel bad that he was beaten up, but I also feel the situation could have been avoided if he just walked away instead of going over to the man calling him the n word. But that’s just my 2 cents.
