New Cotton game announced for 2021

The Cotton series has been getting a decent amount of love, such as the recently announced game Cotton Reboot! and Cotton herself making guest appearances in games such as Umihara Kawase Fresh! and the upcoming platformer-fighting game Umihara Kawase BaZooKa!

However, in a recent user experience event where people had the opportunity to play a demo of Umihara Kawase BaZooKa!, it was announced that a new Cotton game will be coming out in 2021. Not much information has been revealed about what the game is, but it is confirmed to be unrelated to the game Cotton Reboot!, which is still scheduled to be released in summer 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

I’ll admit I’d not even heard of Cotton until… like a month ago or something when I read the last article you posted about it. It looks interesting enough I guess and it makes me wonder what they’re going to do with it now that 2 new games are in the works. Curiouser and curiouser.

If you like shmups, you’ll enjoy the Cotton games.

The best way to describe them is that it’s almost like a mixture of Gradius and TwinBee, where you scroll to the right shooting down everything in your path, with satellites (in this case fairies) assisting you, but having a similar power up juggling gimmick to the TwinBee games. Some games like Panorama Cotton also experimented with a third person perspective, where you fly forward and shoot down anything in your path similar to Space Harrier.

If you like those type of games, you might like Cotton.

Cool! Cotton is one of those franchises I didn’t discover until maybe 10 years ago, but I’ve missed her! I picked up Fantastic Night Dreams on the PC Engine a year or so ago and really enjoyed it. Looking back, it’s weird that it didn’t get a Mega Drive/Genesis release. It’s such a solid series, though. I wish it would’ve gotten more of a chance in the US… it’s sort of like Puyo Puyo and Wonder Boy/Monster World in that it’s a series with a lot of Sega ties that felt like a Sega IP despite the games releasing on rival platforms.
