Atlus & SEGA Creators Talk 2020 and Future Goals

The Japanese gaming website 4Gamer & Famtisu runs a piece every year talking to Japanese developers about their yearly goals, every New Years. This time it seems a bit special considering we are going into a brand new decade, 2020. Or is it 2021?

Most of the answers here from Atlus and one SEGA developer comes from the Famitsu article and was translated by Gematsu.

Atlus’ Katsura Hashino:

“We’re challenging a new RPG at the studio we started several years ago. In my previous title Persona 5, I think we were able to deliver the fun of an Atlus RPG to users around the world, but what can we create if we commit our efforts to a fantasy RPG? I hope to be able to make an official announcement soon.”

Atlus’ Kazuhisa Wada:

“I am valuing and taking one step at a time towards the 25th anniversary of Persona approaching in 2021.”

SEGA’s Hiroyuki Sakamoto:

“We are making various preparations for 2020, so it will be a year of new challenges for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios.”

Check out what other Japanese developers said in Gematsu’s article.

I have this gut feeling we’re going to be hearing about some big stuff this year. Something tells me 2020 is going to be nuta for Sega fans.

Is it weird that I’m still holding out for a true Phantasy Star single player RPG that isn’t aimed at teenagers? Gimme some of that primary colour dark sci-fi goodness, plz!

Oh hell yeah that’d be awesome! I’ve only recently got into Phantasy Star, with me being a few hours into 4 now. A new single player rpg would be hype.
