Streets of Rage 4 reveals Retro features – classic playable characters and music!

While news of a late April release date have been floating around for the upcoming Streets of Rage 4, the developer has said they cannot confirm this date. However what they can confirm is an amazing addition to the game: Retro stuff! Streets of Rage 4 will feature unlockable playable pixel art characters from the previous games in the franchise, complete with their sound effects, movesets and special moves. Combined with the game’s current roster, this brings the game up to 17 playable characters.

But wait, there’s more! The game will also include the soundtracks to Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2, which players can switch to and listen to as they brawl in the streets. These new elements are an awesome inclusion, and really elevates the game in my mind.

Streets of Rage 4 will be available soon for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Nice touch! Notice they’ve added the dynamic rim lighting to the pixel art characters, too.

How about turn off the gross special effects in this version? SoR has a realistic style, not SFII style animations like this abomination.

Really? I guess it’s a mater of taste – this is the best modern realization the SoR could have asked for. I never pay full price or buy new games, but I’ll make an exception with SoR 4. I just wish that Koziro’s soundtrack for SoR 3 was in there – it was weird, wacky and super cool

I’m with Gamelore. I’d prefer Noriyoshi Obha/Yuzo Koshhiro’s 20+ year old tech demo than this… whatever this is…

SOR Trilogy were big budget AAA games, it is sad whatever this low budget cartoon game is. I mean Double Dragon Neon did something similar over a decade ago… I don’t know… My first reaction to SOR4 was wondering if it was another fan mad SOR4. End of the day it is a license game so we can forget that this exists. That said, it could’ve been worse it could’ve been that Battletoads game. So we shouldn’t hate but we do anyways.

Simply marvellous but it doesn’t feel quite the same without Sega involved, it is their game after all and it just isn’t right Sega don’t even involve themselves in their own projects, if Sega was to ever rerelease this in future, it will be yet another problem because they seem to outsource everything to the point that it is only mildly Sega with a Sega label attached but this doesn’t even have that.

Still can’t complain that it is coming out but it would be perfect if Sega couldn’t be bothered to have in their own IPs for a change.

And the Dreamcast release will not be supported by SEGA !? Then they dont allaw gamers to make Remakes and prohibit their webs, this game is copied from SOR remake 5.1, a 2011 spectacular fan work that took about 5 years to make it and that was banned by SEGA losers and now we got this!? And nothing for Dreamcast owners? It is a joke

It will also include the soundtracks to Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2!
