SEGA ‘Revolutionary’ tech news won’t be them releasing & rebranding Xbox Series X console in Japan says ‘key opinion leader in China’

Famitsu has been teasing ‘Revolutionary’ SEGA news that should be coming out in a few days, we posted an article and video about the news with some speculation. One of the speculations we had in our video was that SEGA could be rebranding the Xbox Series X in Japan as a SEGA console and promote it themselves considering how bad Microsoft’s branding has been in the nation. It seems we weren’t the only people to bring it up that we got subtweet by @ZhugeEX on Twitter. We have at least confirmed that it would be this outlandish speculation, but don’t worry we have other outrages speculations in our full video.

A key opinion leader in China says they have seen the latest Famitsu issue and that they can confidently say that the news is not what has been rumored. (The rumor being that Microsoft would work with Sega to rebrand and launch Series X in Japan). Is something else.”

What could the news be? We will find out in a few days but it does seem some SEGAbits Discord users have brought up a good point about SEGA rebranding their logo with the ‘eye’ back in 2017, which teased ‘eye tracking technology’ that we never saw as a commercial product. People predicting this is what SEGA will show off, makes sense. But what do you think the big announcement will be? Let us know in the comments.

it was the most probable hypothesis, well, it’s a little weird AMD leaked RYZEN C7, so powerful, it could be perfect for a switch like device

    • Maury Povich says:

Maybe this ‘opinion leader’ is just that, an opinion leader and not a fact leader. And how does a Chinese person get a hold of the Famitsu article before any Japanese has access to it?

  2. Xbox FAIL says:

Hahahah, suck it up Xbox fans. The SEGA you know does NOT sellout to scumbags.

    • Kobeandodom says:

Dude what are you talking about? Sega is most irrelevant these days. I loved my genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. But I haven’t played a Sega game in forever lmao. I would love a new Power Stone game, but Microsoft hardly has to purchase Sega to make that happen. I don’t see why you think this news would matter to a Xbox fan either way.

    • S3GAA3ES says:

Powerstone is Capcom and SEGA’s overall profits are up over 400%.

Yakuza, Judgement, Two Point Hospital, Football manager and other studios acquired by SEGA are proving that they are not anywhere near as you say irrelevant.

    • SK3 says:

WOW, so easy to trigger an Xbot these days.

    • New York Yankee says:

But you are the one throwing a tantrum like a 6 year old girl who missed a Backstreet Boys concert and shouting derogatory comments about people from other nations. Looks like you are the one triggered by positive Xbox comments.

    • Miguel says:

      Lol Damn

    • SK3 says:

Yup, you got triggered real HARD.

    • Samusjack says:

Ei lembre se que a Sega é a 4° empresa mais rica dos games atualmente

    • IN5ANE 5NIPER says:

Thank God, sick fed up with ignorant Americans (usual suspects) talking about other companies buying Sega out, no, it doesn’t work like that Yanks, Sega is not a Yank company ffs, Sega is bigger outside of America than it is in it, do you seriously believe that Sega would be a sell out in a territory which is historically been Sega’s worst?

Take a reality check and stop looking at global events with a Yankee Doodle American perspective, Sega’s American base is not the real Sega and isn’t even as old as Sega Europe/Japan. Sega of America is tiny compared to what Sega is as a whole.

    • American Prowess says:

Funny how you’re hiding behind a computer monitor talking about Americans.

    • American Doweeem, Dusty Rhodes if you weeeeyill says:

Tango Gameworks is a Japanese game company that was bought out from Zeni Max, an American company. Hopefully, Sega follows their footsteps and then we will see Sonic with a bigger budget.
And then Microsoft will hopefully partner with Nintendo and Namco Bandai.

    • A real American Hero says:

Sonic the Hedgehog was more popular than Mickey Mouse during the Sega Genesis days in America. Nowadays those 90s gamers take their children to watch the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, it’s a box office smash hit. Japanese companies need to avoid being bought out by tencent companies or the sovereignty of their nation will be at stake as will the safety of the entire East Asia. Microsoft will save Sega. We will fight for freedom wherever there’s trouble. And knowing is half the battle.

    • Monster noodle dandy says:

      Stfu bruh.

    • New York Yankee says:

But they gave Crazy Taxi 3 and Jet Set Radio Future exclusive to Xbox.

  3. Axel says:

Outlandish prediction: its an arcade mission for home, like the 1up arcade cabinets but its a SEGA brand.

  4. stephen says:

I wonder if they are going to rebrand ‘Main’ SONIC as the one from the recently released movie.

That would ruffle a few and bring in some money.

transition between Dreamcast and Xbox was so close that at one stage Sega wanted Microsoft to make the Xbox backwards compatible with Dreamcast games. While the plan ultimately failed over internet connectivity issues with Dreamcast games, the fact it was up for discussion at all shows how close the two systems were, and how close the Dreamcast came to literally living on inside the Xbox.

There have been rumors for years that Microsoft planned to buy Japanese game maker SEGA. But did…

The Controller: Unlike its competition at the time, Microsoft had no previous controller design to build upon when coming up with the Xbox, so the company had to look elsewhere for inspiration. It looked to the Dreamcast, where it got the A, B, X & Y buttons, their colours (though their placement was swapped), two true analog triggers and even expansion slots. What’s cool about this is that because the Xbox 360’s pad is so similar to the Xbox’s S controller, the Dreamcast inspiration lives on to this day in Microsoft’s machine.

The Windows: This one actually works in reverse. The Dreamcast was a testbed of sorts for Microsoft, with some of the console’s games running on a custom version of Windows CE. When the Xbox arrived three years after the Dreamcast, you could say it was a more successful implementation of lessons learned with Sega.

The Man: Peter Moore, currently of EA, was in a previous life the president and COO of Sega of America. He was one of the first prominent video game executives, playing a big part in the launch of the Dreamcast. Yet he was also the man who not only ultimately killed Sega’s final console, but was also responsible for series like Shenmue appearing on what would have been rival machines.

Peter Moore Killed The Dreamcast, Fired A Lot Of People
Peter Moore isn’t all chuckles and Xboxes and EA Sports. No, he once was a big man at Sega,

While this made him a little unpopular at the time, in 2003 he was hired by Microsoft, bringing his role in the demise of the Dreamcast full circle.

So Xbox and sega working together is hardly unbelievable, take from this as you will.

  5. Dimitris Norton Greece says:

I would bet it is a new classic mini console which will play games from Sega CD, 32X, Saturn and of course Dreamcast. And why not from Sega Models 1,2,3 (ok, this is a personal wish! :)) Well if this isn’t the case,
it will probably be about a new portable gaming console, which is also great news ! As for the xbox rumors now, I am not a Japanese, but I surely know that Sega’s heart and soul are connected to retro gaming, whereas microsoft and its yuppies fanboys are not even aware of that old magic gaming generation (of 80’s and 90’s). The gaming industry would be STILL ALRIGHT without the existence of xbox… (like it was before 2000, as we all know). Microsoft should only stick to their main objective : windows, excel, word and that kind of stuff… For gaming, we have Sony, Sega, Nintendo & Atari. I was never IN MY MIND accustomed to microsoft as a gamer… Thank God !

    • American innovation says:

Yes Microsoft is aware of retro gaming and they are working on providing backwards compatibility and game preservation while 1.5 billion PS2 discs are going to be left to rot. I can still play Panzer Dragoon Orta on any Xbox branded console. You have no clue what you are talking about.

  6. Kenneth S schmitt says:

After all the cut downs, predictions, and downright bull crap. You gotta love the fact that sega is popping off everyone’s tounge. America has a huge fan base still here and most of us would buy a portable system or even a full on system. I have arcade1ups as well and would love sega to throw out a 3/4 sega 12 in 1 besides the golden axe its letting arcade1up produce. Maybe nintendo next….then snk.

  7. New York Yankee says:

The revolutionary news is that Sega in Japan and retrobit in America are designing 6 button sega Dreamcast controllers that will work with PCs and switch. Sega is going to release several Dreamcast games digitally in the Sega Ages line and they will reveal 40 new games in June…….AND THEY WILL ALSO COME TO XBOX AND NOT PS4 which will be excluded from the deal. Also it will be revealed that Forbes is not a reliable source for videogame information, neither are Chinese articles that you cannot even read, and that Playstation fanboys are oversensitive and throw a fit over any positive information about xbox.

  8. Mark says:

I’ve heard that Sega is partnering with a streaming service and while I have no idea how true it is but I’ve heard from someone I trust that it could be tencent

    • Priest says:

This sounds like the most realistic point to me. As I was reading the comments I thought to myself, if I was sega I would be doing a netflix for games. It would work.

  9. Nintendo is better than Sega, Sega is better than Playstation Studios says:

Not really anti Playstation but it’s always entertaining when overgrown Playstation fanboys throw a fit over information that doesn’t favor their machine. Like Bayonetta 2 and 3. Would be entertaining to see their reactions when Microsoft buys some big Sega exclusives.

    • Centrale says:

Oh, if we’re gonna go there… Sega has always been and will always be cooler than Nintendo, go harvest a fruit on some island.

    • Nintendo is better than Sega, Sega is better than Playstation Studios says:

The thing about Nintendo is that they made their library diverse enough so that the whole family will have something to enjoy. The fruit harvesting game can be enjoyed by females and is not representative of the whole Nintendo experience. Meanwhile Sega never diversified enough so they were beat by Nintendo. Sony studios however, seems to appeal only to overzealous manchildren.

  10. John says:

Anyone realise that a Dreamcast uses windows to run? So why is it so difficult to believe that Xbox and sega would work together?

    • a Yankee called Masahiro Tanaka says:

because they are wannabe samurais that think they know everything about Japan after playing Japanese Sega games all their life. Especially that guy who keeps calling people Yanks.

    • ToeJam and Knuckles says:

It’s why XBOX had so many exclusives carried over from the Dreamcast, not to mention sequels. Really though, Gamecube and PS2 had them too but not as much as XBOX. Not being an XBOX fanboy here, I had Gamecube and PS2 as a kid and only in recent years picked up an OG XBOX, but it was for the Sega exclusives. PS3/XBOX 360 is when things get interesting with more DC ports and arcade ports. Even a few Saturn titles slipped in there. Also Sega All Stars Racing games were AWESOME!

  11. Will says:

Sega bring us virtua fighter 6 and new fight stick for xbox please

    • ToeJam and Knuckles says:

Would that mean VF6 in arcade form first? If so, I could wait an extra year to get a console port. 🙂
