Isn’t Microsoft buying Sega after just buying Bethesda though?
Look at the new blue and white Sega themed controller they just revealed the other day.

Bethesda is a Yankee company, Sega isn’t, so no it wouldn’t be possible, and it would be pretty pointless, even if Sega was an American company and it was possible, what would be the benefit for Sega to adhere to Microsoft policies?

It’s completely possible for companies to purchase foreign companies, so I’m not sure what you mean. Microsoft’s complete lack of Japanese console sales/interest for the past three, going on four generations has alienated them from a host of prolific developers and cost them countless exclusives and potential revenue. Even globally-minded western development studios often skip or de-emphasize Xbox development because they know there’s little-to-no potential for Japanese crossover sales on that platform. That’s why it would make sense for them to buy out a prolific Japanese studio with IPs that will potentially drive Xbox sales. The benefit for Sega would be, in a word, money. The trouble is that the time for a Sega buyout has long since passed.

Had Microsoft bought Sega out back in 2004 in place of Sammy, we could be looking at a completely different industry landscape right now. Sega were world-beaters at that time in terms of quality and vision, and despite their rocky past the brand was extremely prominent in Japan — all they lacked was financial security, which Microsoft could have provided. Were Microsoft to buy Sega out now, however, I think it would simply kill Sega’s remaining successful IPs due to Japan’s complete apathy towards the Xbox platform. Xbox would just be where Sega’s heavy-hitters go to die as far as the Japanese market is concerned. Puyo Puyo and Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku are popular enough in Japan that they can drive big sales on platforms that folks already have, but not enough that they would likely drive people to buy new, dedicated hardware. If that’s what Microsoft’s going for, exclusives that appeal to the Japanese public so much that they’d begrudgingly buy dedicated hardware for them, I don’t know if any company other than Square Enix would do these days.

*Plus Microsoft has just shot down these rumours themselves by publicly stating that it is not happening, and Sega is getting ready for the TGS later today and for the next few days with more reveals and announcements of there own.
