It seems that Shining Force series, the classic turn-based role playing game originally developed by Climax Entertainment, Sonic! Software Planning, will be returning to mobile devices as Hive, the Japanese subsidiary of Korean company Vespa has acquired the rights from SEGA to develop a new title and announced Shining Force: Hikari to Yami no Eiyuu (tentative)(Heroes of Light and Darkness).

The new game will launch in the first half of 2022 worldwide as a free-to-play title with item-based in-app purchases. Specific territories were not announced, but the licensing includes right to distribute games in Japan, South Korea, and other Asian countries, as well as North America and Europe with a beta test being planned.

Shining Force: Heroes of Light and Darkness is currently in development with the goal of brining the strategy and fun of tactical RPGs to mobile devices, based on the unique setting and story of the Shining Force series and the fun of developing unique and charming characters.

Again mobile F2P game from SEGA instead of port/localization of old games. It seems they learned nothing from Sakura Revolution failure.

Great, another classic SEGA IP that Sega doesn’t even want to be involved with.

    sigh…

in hindsight, the fact that shining force neo and exa weren`t that good wasn`t really that big a deal. sure it was disappointing, but the fact that they weren`t strategy rpgs and only shining force in name kinda softened the blow.

    but this…this is gonna hurt…

imagine being camelot and seeing a new shining force game that is a strategy rpg….man.

Wow, Sega really seem to enjoy pimping out their classic IPs to third parties don’t they. Hoping this one dies a death quickly. Maybe Dotemu, Evening Star or someone with an ounce of respect for these classic IP’s can eventually do what Sega clearly can’t.

Oh dear god. I have a really terrible feeling about this after reading this article. I honestly don’t have faith with the “f2p mobile game with iap support” going forward, at all. Remember what happened to Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls from Konami? No? Me neither and good riddance to that terrible excuse of a game. Sheesh, smh.

As someone who liked the Shining series, I will actually look forward to this. My hope is that the game will be good.
