Mike Hayes on Sega Wests OnLive plans

In an interview published today over at GamesIndustry.biz, Mike Hayes was questioned about On Live and how it would fit into Sega’s strategy.

According to Hayes, Sega West currently have three titles in the works for OnLive although all are ports of existing games. Alpha Protocol, Sega & Sonic All-Star Racing and an unspecified Virtua Tennis title were the games mentioned.

“We’ve got three titles with OnLive – Virtua Tennis, Alpha Protocol and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. Those would be managed out of the USA as part of the digital business. If we were starting from scratch we’d run it all out of the US but the heritage of electronics sales just happens to be in Europe, and it doesn’t make sense to move it across.”

I think this is a good way to start… I honestly don’t see this technology going anywhere fast and Sega would be silly to make games specifically for OnLive. Personally I was expecting Aliens vs. Predator and Napoleon: Total War to be among the first on the service, they seem like games that could benefit from OnLive more so than something like Sega All-Star Racing.

For anyone that isn’t familiar with OnLive it is a device that essentially lets you stream games from another computer to your own so there is no need for you to have a top of the line PC and you can still play games with high end graphics… Although many are skeptical about the delay in button commands when streaming a game, you also need a constant internet connection.

Alpha Protocol getting patched

Chris Avellone from Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that they are working on a patch for Alpha Protocol. They stated the reason that they have not released it yet was because of SEGA.

“We wanted to release something fairly quickly based upon some feedback we were getting. I think [SEGA] wanted to take a different approach by gathering more information over a longer period of time and provide a patch then. That’s what we’re figuring out right now.”

So what about DLC? This seems like the type of game that would benefit from such a thing, just like Bioware games. Don’t hold your breath.

“I don’t know if [SEGA is] talking about that at all yet. I can say that we’re not working on any DLC right now. We’d love to, but we’re not.”

With the game dropping to $39.99 already, maybe its the prefect time to get the game?

Zero Punctuation reviews Alpha Protocol

Here is a really fast talking review of Alpha Protocol, actually does not bash the game too hard. Even compares it to Deus Ex, which most reviewers have done and pointed out why that game is better. Regardless, still worth a watch.

Alpha Protocol – Sharped dressed man trailer

Just because the game is already out, does not mean that SEGA will stop with them trailers. This one shows off how you can customize your characters cloths and even has a pretty funny comedy bit in the beginning.

Even though the game does not have super amazing graphics, its good to see color in it. Most western games with guns lack this and add bloom on top to piss me off.

Alpha Protocol sex scene

Here is the sex scene in Alpha Protocol that unlocks the achievement/trophy ‘Savage Love’. Even though its a sex scene, its very PG-13 and not graphic. I think it does better at showing you the dialog tree than most of the other trailers.

Alpha Protocol is out now in America on PC, PS3 and 360.

SEGA Deals: Alpha Protocol for $44.99 at K-Mart

So, Alpha Protocol comes out today and K-Mart is announcing a deal on the game already. If you go in today, till the 5th, you will be able to get your hands on Alpha Protocol for $44.99. This is only in stores. Deal only mentioned for the PS3 and 360 version of the game, sorry PC gamers.

This is all a part of K-Mart’s new strategy into getting gamers into buying games at their store. Cheap games makes me happy, so good job. Last month they had AVP and Bayonetta for $29.99.

Alpha Protocol charts in the UK

Alpha Protocol came out on the 28th, the charts ended on the 29th. So how did it do for one day sales? Rather alright actually. The 360 version came in at number 21 and the PS3 version charted at number 24. Not the best, the success of this title will be determine on how it does the upcoming weeks.

Football Manager 2010 is still charting, rather low at number 38. That is SEGA’s money maker as they say. UK loves football.

Alpha Protocol giveaway winner is…

The winner of the 8gb iPod Touch is Johnathan Weeks who gave us this gadget. The Rocket Skate Shoe. Here is his description of the gadget:

The Rocket Skate Shoe (R.S.S) is a transforming shoe that turns from your standard footwear into a high speed pair of skates. It is an ideal item on missions where a quick escape is vital.

Each shoe has a single skate wheel in the front and a single skate wheel at the rear. Both wheels are connected to a metal plate that is connected to a hinge. When the “skate mechanism button” is pushed, it releases the lock holding the hinges in place until both wheels are under the shoe where the hinges are lock in place again. Pressing the button again returns the wheels to the side of the shoe.

At the rear of each shoe’s heel are the “boost doors.” When the “rocket boost button” is pushed the doors open quickly and the rocket boost becomes activated. Pushing the “rocket boost button” again turns off the fuel hidden within the soles and the door close.

Alpha Protocol developer not proud of final product

Alpha Protocol has been getting mixed reviews due to its bugs and other issues. Some loved it, guys at Joystiq did not. One of the developers commented on the review, saying SEGA should have canceled Alpha Protocol instead of Aliens RPG. Regardless of drama, I will be bringing you a review in the upcoming days.

Alpha Protocol: PC vs. 360 vs. PS3 comparison

Alpha Protocol is coming out on 3 platforms, but which platform looks the best? I got to say, all three look the same to me. Sure the PC version is a bit sharper. But not by much.

Obviously the site is not running the PC version to its full potential, but since this is the only comparison out so far, it is safe to assume each platform is a safe buy. The game is out today in Europe, out in America on June 1st.

The first 10 minutes of Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol comes out tomorrow in Europe and June 1st in the United States, you can check what the first 10 minutes of the game is like. The video was posted by Xbox Evolved.

Why does Micheal walk around like he is a huge body builder unable to move his shoulders or chest? I guess that is how spies walk.

Alpha Protocol Multipath Trailer.

The nifty Alpha Protocol trailer with multiple choice endings is now up on youtube. (So we can finally embed it on Segabits now! Thanks Sega!)

When you hear the woman say ‘Where too Mike?’ you can choose the next step of the trailer by simply clicking on the destination you want on the video. Then it will promptly load the next part. If you ask me it’s a pretty cool way to highlight the ‘choice system’ of the game
