Heavy Rain director and Yu Suzuki talk storytelling

David Cage was working on his game Indigo Prophecy around the same time Shenmue was releasing. If you played Indigo Prophecy or any of Quantum Dreams games, you will notice they used Quick Time Events (QTE) quite a lot. This technic in video games was popularized by SEGA’s Shenmue.

In this interview with both David Cage (Heavy Rain director) and Yu Suzuki talk to Game Informer about storytelling. Its awesome watching Yu Suzuki explain what he tried to capture with Shenmue and what David Cage tries to capture with his games.

Also really like the part where Yu Suzuki took pictures of David Cage’s new game Beyond: Two Souls, because he found it interesting and wanted to look up more information on the game when he got home.

Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny hang out at GDC, talk Shenmue III

YuSuzkiMark

Hey, if you are two of my favorite game developers of all time, you obviously have to hang out together and talk about my favorite unreleased game. According to Megan Scavio, GM of GDC they are in talks about Shenmue III. You know, that game that everyone wants SEGA to release.

“Mark Cerny & Yu Suzuki talking strategy for Shenmue III. For reals you guys.”Megan Scavio

You had me at Yu Suzuki, you sold me on Mark Cerny and you made me smile at Shenmue III. Let’s make it happen!

MODEL 2 COLLECTION: AM2 Fighters now available on PSN & XBLA

Today is a great day to be a SEGA arcade lover of the 90’s. The three legendary AM2 fighters that ran on the MODEL 2 hardware is now available on Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade for only $4.99 (400 MSP) each. Also, for those who are wondering about an option to change the screen size, there is an option to do that under “Settings” from 4:3 to full. I’ve just played it this morning and they are all way better than the original ports from the Sega Ages 2500 line and Gems Collection. Hope they sell well because I want some of that The House of the Dead and Dynamite Cop on my home console. Anyone up for some matches this weekend?

Sonic the Fighters Achievements Revealed

The achievements for the HD rerelease of Sonic the Fighters have been revealed, and they seem rather easy to attain. I’m sure plenty of folks would get all the achievements within minutes. There are a total of 12 achievements to earn, and all together are worth 400 gamerscore points. I wish there was a Super Sonic achievement to make it a bit more challenging. Hit the jump to see the achievements.

Sega posts Employment Ad related to the Virtua Fighter series. Is something special coming up?

Just two days late posting this great news but other than that, Sega of Japan posted a Job Ad for 3 part time positions to work with AM2 and on the Virtua Fighter series. The job description includes assisting with production, organizing/creating events, and working on the VF.net mobile website. They are also looking for fans of the VF series. The deadline for the ad ends on December 7th and the job begins on Febuary 1, 2013. Could AM2 be working on a new Virtua Fighter anniversary title, Fighting Vipers, or VF6? Either way, I’m excited about it. Our forum members are even talking about it right now.

Fighting Vipers XBLA Achievements Revealed

Xbox360achievements.org has uploaded the entire achievement set for the upcoming rerelease of the AM2 fighter, Fighting Vipers as part of the MODEL 2 Collection. No word of Virtua Fighter 2 and Sonic the Fighters achievements. The achievements seems to be too easy. Other than that, I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Round One! Let the Action Begin!

Super Hang-On coming west via Virtual Console

Super Hang-On was released for Japanese Virtual Console owners back in September, but what about us? I don’t know anything about Japan, but I want to play it! Well, seems that it will be heading soon to a Virtual Console store near you.

Australia’s Classifications Board has rated Super Hang-On, which will most likely end up being the Virtual Console game. Could it be a super awesome remake with HD graphics and all the trimmings? This is SEGA, don’t be silly.

Gamer reclaims Space Harrier high score

Nick Hutt from Sutton, UK has taken back the high score for Space Harrier and has been verified by Twin Galaxies website. Really, I did not know the place existed, but then again I never tried to beat high scores myself. Score was submitted by Mr. Hutt on April 30th.

What was his score? 39,495,060. That is  quite a bit and enough to put him on the top once again. His top score was taken down last year by another UK gamer called Philip Campbell with 38,530,220. This puts him in second place.

Apprantly UK gamers have held the high score for Space Harrier since August 1985, when Matthew Preece set the record and his score (31,900,730) lasted all the way till 2005, when Hutt topped it.
