Virtua Fighter’s Akira to appear in Smash Bros Ultimate as assist trophy

It looks like Super Smash Bros Ultimate will continue to pay tribute to the innovative Virtua Fighter franchise. During the release of Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo announced that Virtua Fighter’s Akira and Jacky outfits would come to the games via DLC. Now Virtua Fighter’s Akria will appear in the game when it launches as a assist trophy. It has also been confirmed that Shadow the Hedgehog would be returning once again as a assist trophy as well, which would mark his 3rd appearance as a assist trophy. Very surprised he didn’t get a echo fighter treatment.

Nintendo also announced a ton of new content for the upcoming Super Smash Bros Ultimate release on Nintendo Switch, so check that out. Sadly not a lot of it is SEGA related, so not posting it here.

SEGA in the Media: Sonic makes a cameo in the upcoming sequel to Wreck-It Ralph

The embarrassingly titled sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet, releases next month. While the follow-up to the arcade and video game reference packed original is trading nostalgia for hip and trendy internet references, at least we will get some video game cameos. SEGA mascot Sonic the Hedgehog appeared a few times in the first movie, and he returns here with dialogue once again provided by Roger Craig Smith.

Footage of the cameo had been floating around the past few days, but it was a truncated and cropped version of the above video. Fans online have noted how great the animation on Sonic is, and I totally agree. He looks and sounds great! Such a shame a year from now we have that Sonic movie releasing where he will be in the real world and voiced by a different actor. Oh well, enough negativity from Old Man Barry… enjoy the clip!

Virtua Fighter cameos hit Smash Bros on Wii U and 3DS

SmashVir4
While the big news is that Smash Bros added two new DLC characters that include Roy (Fire Emblem) and Ryu (from Street Fighter), there were also other characters announced as Mii Fighters, including SEGA favorites Jacky and Akira from Virtua Fighter. That isn’t all that hit the market, you can also pick up Megaman.EXE (Mega Man Battle Network), Zero (Mega Man X), Isabelle (Animal Crossing), Inkling boy/girl (Splatoon), and even Heihachi (Tekken).

Each ‘custom Mii fighter’ will cost you .75 cents per fighter, if you want them on both 3DS and Wii U it will cost you only $1.15 each. If you get them all bundled for one version its $6, but if you get them for both 3DS and Wii U its $9.20. Not bad at all.

Anyone purchasing any of these pieces of DLC? Any other SEGA characters you want to see represented in Smash Bros?

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax trailer reveals a Dreamcast console-tan

A new trailer for Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax has hit the internet, and it features a Dreamcast console-tan! What is a “console-tan”? A moe anthropomorphism of a piece of gaming hardware, in this case a Dreamcast. If you don’t know what a “moe” is, I’ll let you Google search that on your own. Given Akira and Pai from Virtua Fighter appear in the game as bosses, it is likely that the Dreamcast gal is a boss as well.

After the break, check out a full body shot of Dreamcast console-tan!

Bayonetta, Rodin, and Jeanne to cameo in The Wonderful 101

tw101_bayo

For the first time, to my knowledge, we’re covering The Wonderful 101 news by way of the reveal that Bayonetta characters Bayonetta, Rodin, and Jeanne have been announced to cameo in the Platinum Games developed and Nintendo published game. Hideki Kamiya, director of Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, made the announcement at PAX today. What is interesting about this announcement is that this is the first time fully owned SEGA characters from Platinum Games have appeared in a game fully owned by Nintendo. So it’s sort of a SEGA, Nintendo, Platinum Games crossover. No further details have been revealed, thus explaining why I’ve been stretching this little bit of news out to a paragraph length.

Hatsune Miku to guest star in Monster Hunter Frontier G & 7th Dragon 2020-II

Its crazy how popular Hatsune Miku is in Japan. The vocaloid goddess herself will ‘guest star’ in Capcom’s Monster Hunter Frontier G and will do the opening music for the intro to 7th Dragon 2020-II from SEGA. She also did the for the last 7th Dragon game, properly titled 7th Dragon 2020. One thing that always excited me about the 7th Dragon franchise was that they are being produced by SEGA’s legendary Rieko Kodama.

As for the Monster Hunter cameo, she isn’t really in the game. What they do have is a costume so you can dress your character up like Hatsune Miku herself. If you didn’t know, Monster Hunter Frontier G is a online enabled Monster Hunter game for 360 and PC that requires a monthly payment to play.

Pai and Sarah don swimsuits in Dead of Alive 5 Collector’s Edition

Tecmo’s love for women in swimsuits has extended to Virtua Fighter’s guest characters Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan, as Siliconera revealed screens of SEGA’s gals in swimwear. These suits, as well as suits for the Dead or Alive women, are available in the Dead or Alive 5 Collector’s Edition of the game, which is a Gamestop exclusive available next week in the US and on September 28th in Europe as a CentreSoft exclusive.

After the break, a screen of Pai Chan in her swimsuit.

Sonic the Hedgehog to cameo in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph

We’ve known of Eggman’s cameo in the upcoming Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph, as well as a few other SEGA cameos, but what about SEGA’s mascot Sonic the Hedgehog? At the Comic Con Wreck-It Ralph panel it was revealed that Sonic will in fact appear in the movie by way of a PSA warning video game characters that if they die in a game that is not their own, they will not regenerate and will cease to exist permanently. No word on who will be voicing Sonic, or if he will be speaking at all, but fingers crossed for Roger Craig Smith. It would just be odd to hear yet another voice coming from Sonic. I’d assume that the proper voice would be something SEGA would require when using the character, given it’s their brand and not Disney’s. Wreck-It Ralph, along with a slew of retro and modern video game characters, hits theaters this November in the US.

*UPDATE: Altered Beast and HotD cameos added* Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph trailer hits, check out Eggman’s cameo!

For those living under a rock, Disney has been working on a CG animated feature called “Wreck-It Ralph” which is essentially “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” with video game characters. For quite some time we’ve known that Eggman had a cameo, but it wasn’t until today that we got to see Eggman in action. He doesn’t say much, if anything, but he’s there. Try and spot other SEGA characters in the Game Central Station scene. I’d assume Eggman, being in his modern design, crawled out of the Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing arcade machine. The movie hits this fall.

After the break, another SEGA baddie spotted!

Confirmed: Eggman to cameo in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph

Yup, we have known about this for awhile now. But now it is confirmed by Entertainment Weekly that Doctor Ivo Robotnik aka Doctor Eggman will cameo in the upcoming Disney flick “Wreck-It Ralph”. The movie is about a videogame villain who is looking to change paths in life. I guess being evil is only cool for so long and probably doesn’t pay very well.

If you saw the leak, other villains who are set to cameo in the movie include Street Fighter‘s M. Bison and Browser from the Super Mario Brothers series. As of right now it’s not known if Eggman will be having spoken dialogue in the movie, but Eggman’s voice actor did tease a major announcement. Could this have been it? The movie is set to release in November 2012, are you excited?

Update: Entertainment Weekly wrote that Eggman mainly stays in the background however he does speak the group’s mantra in unison with the others as the scene ends: “I’m bad, and that’s good. I will never be good, and that’s not bad. There’s no one I’d rather be than me.”
