Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games heading to arcades!

marioandsonicarcade

SEGA has revealed that Mario and Sonic will be heading to arcades together for the first time, as part of their latest Olympics team-up. The games will be getting location tests starting today and running through July 20 at the Club SEGA in Akihabara and the SEGA World in Kasai.

It is currently unknown whether the arcade version will be a port of content from the Wii U version or be a completely unique game. At the very least, the game will have unique controls, going by the design of the cabinets.

Mario and Sonic 2016 will be launching for the Wii U and 3DS next year. It is currently unknown when the final version of the arcade game will hit Japanese arcades, and whether or not these machines will appear in Western arcades.

Nintendo pre-E3 Digital Event: Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games trailer

Nintendo’s Digital Event at E3 2015 has wrapped, and on the SGEA side of things we have a new trailer for the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games title. The new trailer showcases summer sports that will be included in both Wii U and 3DS titles, though those hoping for any real surprises or hints at a story mode or party mode will be disappointed. Hopefully we learn more about the game soon, personally I’d like to see a beefed up London Party Mode (obviously set in Rio) and I think SEGA really needs to include some Samba de Amigo characters given the game’s setting.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games announced for Wii U and 3DS

Well this came out of nowhere! A Japan-only Nintendo Direct has revealed that a new Mario & Sonic game based on next year’s Rio Summer Olympics will be releasing on the Wii U and 3DS…eventually. No date was given in the trailer, but a late 2015 date seems likely if the past games are any indication.

The trailer looks like pretty standard Mario & Sonic fair, though it does seem to reveal several newly playable characters. These characters include Mario’s Nabbit, Donkey Kong’s Diddy Kong, as well as Rouge, Jet and Zazz. It looks like Sonic’s Egg Pawns and Mario’s Boom Booms will also be playable in some form, but given that they only appear as filler characters in the rugby mini game, they may not be playable in other parts of the game. These are the first new additions to the series since 2010’s Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Trailer

It’s Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games… What a mouthful!
If there is something I don’t think anyone could fault Sega for, it’s their very impressive CGI and Mario/Sonic/London as I’m now calling it does not disappoint on the CGI front!

A great trailer and hopefully a great game! Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will release for the Nintendo Wii on November 15th in North America, November 18th in Europe and the DS version will release Febuary 2012.

Sega Announces E3 2011 Line Up

Sega have today announced their E3 2011 line up and it’s pretty packed! With some really exciting games like Binary Domain, Guardian Heroes, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Renegade Ops, Crush3D and Sonic Generations, not to mention Platinum Games’ Anarchy Reigns already announced, is it too much to ask for some surprises too?

I’m still holding out hope for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown to console, Valkyria Chronicles 3 to West and any kind of news on Phantasy Star Online 2!

But with or without those games it’s quite a good line up for new and old Sega fans, hit the jump for the full list. I’m personally very excited about Aliens and Binary Domain!

SegaBits writers Nuckles87 and Shigs will be presant at E3 2011 and reporting feedback on all of these games and more!

5 Times Sonic Totally Beat Mario

There are moments in Sonic and Mario’s histories worthy of debate: Sonic 3 or Super Mario 3? Who had the better first 3D game? Mario Kart Wii or Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Wii? However, there are also moments when it is so obvious that Sonic won, even the most hardcore Mario fans will have a tough time assembling a counter argument. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit 5 times Sonic totally beat Mario!

Rumour: Sonic Colors May Be Ported, Mario & Sonic 3 Not Sports Related

So the long and the short of it is this, last year some random guy turned up on a site full of random people known as ‘4chan’. Calling himself  ‘Wentos the Traveling Salesman’ he claimed to be an insider from Sega with a lot of beans to spill.

Like some online Mystic Meg he then dispenses some rather vague predictions and info on upcoming Sonic games. For reasons unknown to me  people took stock in what this anonymous tipster had to say. Apparently many of his predictions did come true, albeit pretty vague ones I think anyone could have taken a stab in the dark at.

I’m not telling you this for the good of my health, so you have probably guessed it. He’s at it again… This time regarding Sonic Colours and Mario & Sonic.
