Sonic gets his own Amiibo in February 2015

Sonic Amiibo

Sonic fans, get ready to smash and boom this winter as Nintendo has just announced Sonic as the first Amiibo based on a third party character. Nothing much is known yet, but he’ll most likely be compatible with Smash Bros and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Outside of what’s in the link, no other information is known at this time, but we’ll be sure to update with new information as it comes in. I will say, he needs a bit of a nose job before they release him.

PAX Prime ’14 Preview: Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

screen-1

While Penny Arcade Expo allowed the general public to play Sonic Boom, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd and Alien Isolation, along with Bayonetta 2 showcased by Nintendo, very little was new to those looking for new information, which included the updated Sonic Boom demo which unfortunately did not make it to the event. This left very little for new SEGA news for fans to pick apart. That is until you factor in Sonic’s involvement in the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo was showing off both versions for the general public to play at PAX. With the new installment coming out, there are a few changes that are in place that people can expect to enhance the gameplay, but for what was shown off so far is guaranteed more Smash Bros. to go around.

Atlus Review: Abyss Odyssey (Xbox 360)

If you’re familiar with ACE Team, they’re responsible for some of the most off the wall games including Zeno Clash, Rock of Ages and before they became a commercial developer, they were a pretty interesting mod developer. Their continued partnership with Atlus has brought another release that is less absurd thematically, but brings us a rogue-like title that wraps mechanics similar to the Super Smash Bros. series with Abyss Odyssey. It’s not a carbon copy of the Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, nor is it a cumbersome slog akin to Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. The game centers itself around its fighting game mechanic and drives you to advance onto closed off fighting arenas, hunting for loot and building your character to become stronger as you find better weapons and techniques.

Nintendo Direct: Mario & Sonic getting an online mode, Sonic to be in Smash Bros

Some Sonic news came out of today’s Nintendo Direct! First, and to the surprise of no one, Sonic will be in the new Smash Bros! Finally, I will be able to re-enact the awesome Sonic and Mega Man battle from the Archie crossover!

To somewhat greater surprise, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Winter Olympics will have an online mode! The online mode will encompass four events, including a dream event that combines snowboarding, bobsledding and skiing. Players will be able to win “points” for their home country, which will be showcased in a worldwide leaderboard. Nintendo will also be offering a special version of the game bundled with a light blue Wii remote. Mario & Sonic also just launched its website, which you can find here.
