I usually make sure they are well organized in the meta-tags.  Like I don't want compilation albums to get separated, so I fill in the "album artist" category with the name of the album--stuff like that.  You can do it in batches by group-selecting files and pasting in what you want.  I do it with album art often, when iTunes can't find the cover art, or it's something I recorded from a bootleg vinyl.

How did you get so much, is it all your CD's and online purchases?  If they were bit-torrents with bad meta-data, then you would have a rough time organizing them.  If you import them from CDs, iTunes does most of the work, then I just do a little tweaking to make sure they get put where I want them.

about 40% are cds, 30% digital back up of vinyls and the other 20% are pirating, last 10% are purchasing digitally.

Not too bad.

Wow George, that's an impressive amount of music.

I know of ways of overcoming the concerns you're describing, but you probably wouldn't give a shit anyway lol
I do think iTunes is getting old. It definitely needs some more organization options, instead of almost forcing you to do it it's way.

My collection is about 50/50 CDs and torrents, I started it about 2 years ago. I must add that I HATE downloading music. The sound quality is not good enough.
So I don't know if I should get into the whole digital purchasing thing. I can get CD's for a corresponding price.. I do have some 40 bucks in coupons to buy music online. But it's from the Nokia Store. It sounds really lame and I wonder if I can put the songs in my iPod.

To get back on topic, I only got to use my iPad for 1 night.  The next day the wireless network function turned gray and stopped working permanently.  There's no Apple Store here, so I brought it in to a local reseller, and they are shipping it off to Apple for Warrantee replacement.  I'm afraid I won't get it back in time for my Washington DC trip (it would have to come back tomorrow).

I went through Apple's Support forums, and no one else has had this problem.  Some people complain about poor reception, that's it.  The advice I got from other users was terrible.  One told me to drive it over to an Apple Store.  (2000+ miles) Someone else told me to turn off Airplane mode.

I think I'll get along okay with books, ipod, iPhone, DS and PSP.  My Macbook's battery is no good anymore, so I'll probably just put it in my suitcase.

Did you call apple support? They usually help.. That is something strange to happen to your iPad.

No, I just took it in to our Mac reseller that also repairs Apple stuff.  of course repairing this thing really means sending it back to Apple and getting me a new one.

Apple is really good with exchanging stuff. My brother, out of warranty, took his iphone in to the store and they just gave him a new one when they could not fix it. No questions asked.

They replaced one of my old old ipods too via mail, though it was a battery issue and i heard they were getting sued for it. SO i guess not bad either way.

I love how they say that it will take one month to repair, and it always takes exactly 30 days to come back to me.

I've been rather unlucky with iPods. I guess carrying them around every single day for 2 years may have something to do with it. Still, Apple always gets it fixed/replaced so it's great.

I turn my iPod on "Manually Manage", then I play the songs from the iPod through the computer at work, even though it is synced at home.  So I play mine sometimes 8 hours per day or more.  It's been a pretty good work horse.  I also back up my documents on it, in addition to a couple of external hard drives.

I read that first as 'Manually Massage'. That would be a pretty cool feature.

Yes, but my malfunctions are always hardware related. I usually have the iPod in my pocket/backpack at all times. So it gets wet/dirty/hit quite often. So 2 years of full functionality actually sounds a rather long time to me.

I'm for 'Manually Massage' on the next iPod.

Give the iPad a vibrate feature and then slip it under your shirt.

After owning my iPhone for about 4 months, one day I turned it on silent and the button flew off. I took it to o2 and they sent it off to be replaced. Took about 2 weeks if I recall.
