Title: Shenmue: Pro Skater
Post by: Dreampool on January 11, 2017, 02:19:12 pm
I was in the middle of playing THPS on Dreamcast when an idea had occurred to me: What if there was a Shenmue: Pro Skater?

Gameplay: The goal of the game is to traverse multiple skateparks based on Shenmue game locations and successfully perform and combine aerials, flips, and grinds, with successful executions adding to the player's score.

The player can choose their own Character and Deck and will complete a number of tasks which result in yen rewards. With money gained, the player can then purchase Technique Scrolls (skill improvements, better tricks) new skateboards and eventually a Jet Cola Sponsorship. The player is provided a checklist of challenges via a notebook. The challenges would change from level to level. For example:

New Yokosuka Harbor Checklist:
Rules:

I'm curious to hear your opinions on this idea. Do you guys think that this game would appeal to audiences?

Knowing SEGA, Sonic: Pro Skater is more likely.
Beside Sonic has more personality and positive vibe than Ryo.
I didn't think Ryo's bland face fit nicely with skateboard game.

As a racer (on Sega All Star Racing) it's okay to have bland face since may be he's driving the car carefully.
But it'll be strange as a skater.

Ryo's bland face was never a selling point for Shenmue so why would it be for a skate boarding game? Besides, there would be other characters to choose from.
