So sad to know that there are no plans for 3D Golden Axe for 3DS.
It was one of my favorite classic hack and slash game.  :(

See, we really wanted a side-scroller in the [Sega 3D Classics] line-up.
We had Golden Axe as one of our candidates and were told that it would be extremely difficult to get it to work in 3D because,
in addition to the backgrounds being tricky to covert to 3D, the game moved in a gummy way―so that was a no-go.

Aww, what a shame. I was hoping for 3D Golden Axe. :(

Yeah, sad news indeed. This is down to the fact that it―and most games from the pixel art generation, actually―used visual tricks to achieve a sense of depth. If they tried to convert that as-is to 3D then it would destroy the illusion.

George:
Tho they said they wouldn't do SOR 2 for the same reason and they just announced that. You never know.

Not quite same reason I think, SOR2's problem if I remember correctly is more into any paths that go up or down the screen (vertical and horizontal problem), but for Golden Axe, there are stages that had different height, for the example : at the middle of stage 1 (before facing the boss), at the beginning of stage 2, and the bridge at stage 3.

But yeah, I understand your points, they could surprise us later, just like 3D SOR2. We may never know.
