Comedies! Anyone have any recommendations?
« on: September 18, 2013, 09:32:52 am »
I saw a snippet of "A Touch of Cloth" last night, which is a spoof (comedy) on Police Drama's. (the name itself is a play on almost soiling yourself with the words "Touch Cloth").

It came off as an Airplane like series, with a bunch of gags put in for entertainment.

However, the best Comedian for me (and I own all of his DVDs) is Lee Evans.

He's an impressionist too, so his faces are really funny when he makes the expressions. The only problem I have with him (although many fall into this), is that he tells a similar joke on each DVD regarding things in life that are funny. He's still funny in how he mentions these Slice of Life Jokes but you know he's done something like that before.

I also like Airplane and Airplane 2, although most of the jokes are for Americans (and possibly Canadians), so I don't get some of the jokes in the films.

Never watched Naked Gun but heard they're pretty good, and Scary Movie in general feels like watching a 12 year old's Comedy.

Tell me your favourites and thoughts on Comedies!
Big fan of Claymore, Miria in particular.

Have you seen Zoolander or Not Another Teen Movie? I'm sure if you liked Airplane you'd like those. They're personal favorites of mine.

Yep! Watched both of those and laughed. XD

Also watched Happy Gilmore. That was a funny concept too.

Oh, and you guys should watch Eight Crazy Nights...it's pretty big in the UK! :D

As for stand up comedians, I recommend highly 'Bill Bailey' 'Ricky Gervais' and 'Michael Mcintyre'

For TV series:

British TV:
Spaced
Peep Show
Idiot Abroad
The Day Today
Brass Eye
Time Trumpet (This will only be funny if you are well versed in UK celebrities.)

Watched Horrible Bosses 2 last weekend. The situational comedy felt forced in this one and the characters were dumbed down too much for my taste. Unlike the first one I won't be adding it to my collection.

I will say this of Jason Bateman, when it comes to comedies he's great at playing the straight man and his comedic timing is superb.

Bad Words, Extract are both underrated as movies. Honestly don't have much time now-a-days to watch movies... so yeah.

But if your looking for a funny show; try Fresh of the Boat, one of my newest favorite shows on the tele.

Naked Space

A 1981 movie starring Leslie Nielsen.
It's a low-budget comedy, heavily criticized,
but as for me... even all Naked Gun series combined didn't make me laugh as much as this movie.

"Super Troopers", "A Night at the Roxbury", and "Van Wilder" were my favorites throughout the early 2000s.

"Scott Pilgrim vs the World" and "The Other Guys" are the most recent comedies that I can remember. Highly quotable.

"The Slammin' Salmon" isn't bad if you like Super Troopers, and "Beerfest" is superbly idiotic. Speaking of idiotic, "Idiocracy" is super funny, but it might take a second/third/fourth/fifth viewing to realize it actually is a constant barrage of humor.

TL;DR: go watch Idiocracy.
