"Sonic 3D" PC Version
« on: September 20, 2014, 07:47:06 am »
For years now (even when I was home schooled) I've was trying to find the full version of the PC version. I found it, but it doesn't run on Windows 8.1 and I tried VM and no music. Help please?

Get an old ass PC to play it.
You can usually get one from a relative's attic or for 20 bucks on your favorite online used marketplace (ebay, craigslist, etc)

You either need to acquire older hardware or instead of using a heavily software virtualizer like VirtualBox, or you need to look into using Hardware Virtualizers such as Qemu or Bochs, which simulate actual hardware going back at least 2 decades.

Run the .exe with Compatability Mode set to Windows XP SP2, maybe?

Thank you for both responses. I have downloaded "Qemu" and I was wondering how to start it as seeing it has no executable file as far as I can tell.

These are the windows binaries, linked from the official Qemu site.

And here is the big "How to guide"

Thank you for the link, but there's so many libg.dll errors.

I tried running the game on Windows 8.1 again just to make sure it wont work when I got a "piracy check failed" error. I always get that but can't find a solution. I also tried it in compatibility mode and still get that error.

You may think I was joking around, but to play these sorts of games I usually just make something out of old computer parts laying around and play it there. It works and gives you the same experience the devs thought you'd have back in the 90s

I actually had a really old PC before I upgraded to me new one, and it still wouldn't run it.

If you still have it, you could try installing Windows 98 SE. It usually runs all these old ass games pretty well. I used to do so with games that refused to run under Win XP/7

IS there a way to dual boot it? As in not VMWare or Virtual Box but fully DB? I just checked and it says not possible with 8 and 98.

I don't know about 8 and 98. Probably not..

I used to dual boot with XP and 98. I >think< 7 was possible too.
