I can especially imagine the argument around kryptonite.

Luthor: "Well, why don't you try giving your speedy little rodent problem green glowing rocks, see how that works!"
Eggman: "You fool! It will do the complete opposite of weaken him!"

Y'see, this is why I am not too big fan of Superman. Because he's rather OP to the point most of the drama and challenges are for Clark Kent than Superman. The whole point of Kryptonite to begin with was to give him an exploitable weakness that would put more challenge, risk and reward to his adventures.
Now he's immune to Kryptonite and gets even more superpowers, he might as well become a god at this point.
