Before I know what Shenmue is, back then I don't have a clue what it's supposed to read.
But yeah, most company logo are so simple and easily can be read.

I think logo's are allowed to be stylish as long as they're not too illegible to read at first glance. But I also think it's a problem if they're too bland. Like when Google's logo looked more reflective in the '90s to early 20's but chose to make it flat. Or when Paypal had a stylized P as a logo but just made it into pong.

As long as there's paypal word below it, otherwise I would have a hard time to recognize it instantly.
