Castlevania: Resurrection prototype for Dreamcast unearthed after 22 years

Back when the SEGA Dreamcast came out, there were a lot of games that never got actual releases.
Over the years some of these games leaked and fans have been able to experience “what could have been”.
Now, 22 years after its initial reveal, Castlevania: Resurrection for Dreamcast has finally had its prototype leaked to a French Dreamcast preservation website.

Damn, Agartha looked beautiful. I'm imagine it was an adventure treasure hunting game like Tomb Raider but perhaps with some survival elements.. though survival games did not had a well known scene back then so Agartha might had been Sega's idea for a Tomb Raider answer.

Dunno much about Castlevania but it looks good. Reminds me of that N64 game I only played a bit of.

I imagine Geist Force was Sega's "answer" to StarFox.

I played a lot of Half-Life, so dunno how to comment that.

I wonder how that Emulator would of worked? Like, would it come with some sort of cartridge port?

I guess a generic dogfighting game? I dunno enough about planes to comment. Though would of been cool if the Tornado was an unlockable plane.

If I had to guess, Scud Racer would of probably been a cross between Daytona USA and F-Zero.

Indeed. The title alone isn't interesting, but the game turned out to be cool.

I think the emulator was first meant to be used by SEGA themself.
The one in SEGA Smash Pack.
But then came out the idea,
since it could be used to play other Mega Drive games too,
then why not showing them to third party companies?
In case they wanted to make their own (officially released) Smash Pack
(Capcom Smash Pack, Namco Smash Pack, Taito Smash Pack, etc)

Kenji Eno Broke New Ground for Video Games

Quote
Eno's use of limited edition runs was unheard of in Japan at the time.
“There's a disconnect between Japanese developers and fans in the ‘90s … and it was uncommon for developers to interact with fans,” explains George Perez, founder of SEGABits.

Yuji Naka Killed "Dreamcast's Star Fox" (Geist Force), Says Former Sega Producer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DTULx8RvME

Quote
The game in question is Geist Force, a Star Fox-style on-rails shooter which was first shown at E3 1998, prior to the Dreamcast's release in Japan.
The game was intended to be a launch title for North America, and prior to Subotnick's recent revelation, was believed to have been cancelled due to a lack of confidence in the game, missed deadlines and disagreements within the development team.
According to Subotnick, this isn't the whole picture.

Reicast (Dreamcast Emulator) has been Discontinued by Its Creator

Quote
"Reicast was a dreamcast emulator (2013 - 2021), derived from the nullDCe codebase
Reicast was maintained by Stefanos Kornilios Mitsis Poiitidis, and received several contributions from other developers over its lifetime
Reicast is now discontinued, due to large part on the libretro drama/fork of 2019, general community toxicity around emudev and open source, lack of interested developers and a wish on skmp's part to move on with other projects in his life.
We hope we brought you back fond memories, and/or that you got to experience the magic of the Dreamcast through this project :)
There are several other actively developed Dreamcast Emulation projects, with at least one of them a derivative of Reicast, which you can use."

Cheers, ~skmp

Honestly, it probably for the best. Yuji Naka probably took one look at it and said "We're really resorting to ripping off Star Fox?"
Honestly Panzer Dragoon is the better "answer" to the Star Fox series.

Canceling the game is one thing,
but the way he treated the team who made it was really disappointing.
