Sega & Microsoft
« on: November 01, 2021, 03:02:46 pm »
The two companies are forming an alliance for a new
generation of cloud gaming. Microsoft has not acquired
Sega, but it would be nice if they did.

Half agree, half not.

SEGA's using Microsoft's Azure to their online gaming is a good thing.
PSO2 Global is the proof.
I support this decision.

Would I like if Microsoft acquired SEGA and their game became limited to XBox and PC only?
Definitely No.
Sega co-founder David Rosen had always felt it was a bit of a folly for SEGA to be limiting their potential to only few consoles.
SEGA games should be played everywhere wherever they can.
And I agree with that.
I love playing SEGA Ages on Switch, Yakuza on PS4, and Idola Phantasy Star Saga on smartphone.

My motto is : Majima everywhere forever! Uh.. I meant SEGA everywhere forever!

Still... the idea of a Sonic game with the same TLC and budget as a Halo game...

Or better yet an MMOG! Would love a game like PSO2 but exclusively for Avatars.

But will it effect the price of the game?
Sonic games were always cheaper compared to some of others ($39.99 vs $49.99/$59.99)
that's why parents love to pick it for their kids.

I'd say a more pricey Sonic game will be well worth it if it keeps them satisfied for hours.

Sega clarifies its ‘alliance’ with Microsoft won’t result in Xbox exclusives

Quote
“We already have a very close business relationship with Microsoft.
We outsourced the development of their large-scale titles and as a third party, we are supplying a variety of titles,” the company said, referring to its studios’ work on Halo Wars 2 and Age of Empires 4.
“When we announced the concept of Super Game, Microsoft was sympathetic to that vision and that leads to the announcement this time.

I mean, Microsoft seems to be one of the lesser evil, but that's only at the moment. I'm afraid they want to be some sort of a monopoly with so many developers and brands that they have. They have very deep pockets and I think they have bought even more developers than I'd feel comfortable with. In this Activision Blizzard can't get any worse than what they are now, but we will see how this situation develops.

If it's really just about money factor,
the sky is the limit for Microsoft.
Microsoft has acquire Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal
a frigging $68.7 billion !
meanwhile if the other companies are willing to be acquired,
they could settle less :

-Electronic Arts: $38.88
-Take Two Interactive: $18.23
-Nexon: $15.52
-Bandai Namco: $15.44
-Netmarble $7.46
-Ubisoft: $6.58
-Konami: $6.09
-Square Enix: $5.59
-Capcom: $4.60
-SEGA: $3.73

But that's only if they're willing,
which thankfully most of them are not ... for now.

Especially Japanese companies...
SEGA, Capcom, and Nintendo are Kabushiki Kaisha's which means they cannot be straight up bought out buy a foreign corporation.
They could sell IP's to Microsoft or they could strike exclusivity deals, but no buyouts.
That's why Nintendo were laughing when Microsoft tried to buy them.
