Aki-at, why did you cross out all your arguments? It sounded like you had interesting stuff to say!  :?:

Anyway, I would never argue that Sonic was the biggest factor in the Genesis/SNES war, but I was just saying that there were a lot of other things Sega did that was also likely necessary to win.

Because today is NOW a good day and one of the rare times where I will agree with everyone on almost everything.

Yes, but claiming the Genesis' success was purely because of Sonic doesn't seem right. Sega had the better marketing, a head-start etc etc.

Clearly you are a viral Marketer for for Sonic the Hedgehog, Aki-at!

The jig is up...

[spoiler:2g1q09qu]I am AAUK![/spoiler:2g1q09qu]

PS. Not sure if you are serious or not, but Mega Drive sales were really poor up until Sonic 1.

AAUK... the guy that all classicOMGBLACKEYE  Sonic fans hates over your rant? :P

At the time of Sonic 1, I saw it, and I thought the color and the parallax scrolling were amazing, but the Genesis was already a household name, at least in the US.

This is my opinion, having been in High School when the Genesis came out.

Sonic 1 was another addition to a great list of titles.  Once Sega decided to start bundling it with the Console, rather than Altered Beast, then Sonic was pushed into the mascot role, and people started taking notice what a great game it was.

Was Sonic ever bundled with the Genesis 1, or was it only the Genesis 2 and later?  We bought it separately.

I was pretty young when we got our Mega Drive/Genesis, We definitely had teh first edition, but I can't remember if Sonic was bundled with it or not. I think it might have just been Altered Beast and Columns that came with it though...

My dad got me a Mega Drive II. It came with Sonic 1 and some other awesome games.

I think Sega should have done the opposite of what they did.
Add-ons out or not, they should have sticked with primarily the Mega Drive well into 95 or 96. Forget the PS, it was going to be a success anyway, and make the Saturn fight head to head with the N64, with some better hardware.

The Mega CD at least gave the Mega Drive so much late potential. My opinion. It should have been more explored.

Mine came with Sonic 1 (and a 3-in-1 cartridge with Hang-On, Italia 90 and Columns) and it's the first model. I'm pretty sure later Mega Drive II's were bundled with S&K in Portugal.

I just visited Sega Nerds, and dear lord has that place turned into n00b city! So many n00bs... it made me cry.

One asked me: "I have to ask because im so curious! What games did ya get with the sega?"

Whaaa? "the sega"? The writer was clearly from the USA and has written in English before. That sort of bizarrely written n00bish question didn't deserve a reply.

Also, this post made me cry: "Never played shenmue, but I'll probably give it a try if theres a remake ever! that was wat happen to me w/GOW"

Sorry, I like the Sega Nerds news page, and the swag thing is a unique idea, but with all y'all coming over here the boards have gone to the n00bies.

Most of the replies there are from kids wanting karma points, so they post stupid stuff on everything. I can't take anything commented there too seriously.

Specially when someone suggests Mod Nation Racing over SASASAR, seriously?

have you tried the Modnation racers beta?
it's totally generic, evenmore generic than some of the weapons in SASAR!

The first game i got with the sega was alex kidd in miracle world.
It was built in and came on when i tried playing sonic or pyscho fox.

Yeah, I have the BETA, or was in it. The racing felt shitty as hell. I could not get into the game and the track making didn't feel that stratifying as LBP. Not as in depth.

I agree with you there, plus more often than not I would get stuck on the other side of the barrier and have to press the reset to track button.

So true, and that's the inherent problem of offering 'rewards' so easily. You'll get a lot of people with zero actual interest in what they are doing, just hanging around to scab free stuff. And of course, since that's their sole purpose, they'll probably get everything quicker than the long-time members.

Remember when they gave away 20 free points in some thread? THe first 5 posters or so were all people that never even posted on SegaNerds!
