SEGA leaves Japanese arcade management business

Quote
SEGA has basically, mostly, sold off its Arcade arcade business to GENDA, a company founded in 2018 to operate arcade rentals, online crane games.
I know its mostly a Japanese thing, but SEGA’s arcade business has been part of its history almost since the start and having them sell off 85% of the shares on the companies 60th Anniversary is a bit bitter.

SEGA Arcade Centers Will Still Be Named SEGA After GENDA Handover

Quote
"The existing names of each store will be carried over even after the transfer of stocks.
Although the stores will be managed under a new administration, customers will still be able to continue patronage as usual."

Masahiro Sakurai is looking forward to what is next for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
despite challenges with Steve's presentation

Quote
"Being able to take part in this many different types of content truly makes me feel like I have a job filled with happiness, and I'm looking forward to what we get to show you next.
Also, something I've already said quite a few times here in the magazine columns, but the coronavirus pandemic is affecting all aspects of game development and making our work much harder than it normally has been,."

How SEGA Adapts to Covid-19 Pandemic

Quote
I think SEGA pulling 85% out of a business like Amusement Centers is a good thing, while they profited for awhile, that profit had been up and down. Never stable and it continued to shrink.
SEGA pushing more developers and workers into making software titles, especially since they are on the rise in sales and due to COVID-19 a lot more people are playing video games at home; it makes sense to adapt.

Sega Again Says It Wants to Bring More Atlus Games to PC

Quote
Haruki Satomi : "We haven’t been proactive in releasing ATLUS games on Steam so far. However, the response to the straight port of Persona 4 Golden on PC was far and beyond what we expected.
Therefore, we’d like to continue releasing games from ATLUS’s catalog to various platforms–some of which will be straight ports, some of which will be remasters or remakes."

Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On for the SEGA Saturn

Quote
Released in 1995 to arcade’s by Sega AM3, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On is a versus fighting game featuring robots known as the “virtuaroids”, appropriately powered by Sega Saturns.
Yes, sticking consoles on your protagonists was a thing even before The Typing of the Dead.
The game was later ported to the Saturn, which is the version we’re putting to the test in this 2-Man Scramble.

Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown are Playable in Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Quote
For Yakuza: Like A Dragon, you can expect to find arcade units for Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, OutRun, Super Hang-On, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.
Different arcade units within each arcade offer varying difficulties as well, so make sure you pick the right one.
Also, you will have to pay the in-game currency of yen to play, so you cannot actually play infinitely.

Sega Amusements International CEO : "Sega restructuring will not affect US/Europe"

Quote
The restructuring of the Sega group in Japan will not impact Sega Amusements International, says CEO Paul Williams.
The Japanese parent company is restructuring as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it will not affect the sales forces in the UK and US.
“We are continuing to develop new games, in association with our colleagues in Japan,” said Williams

Power Instinct / Goketsuji Series
Atlus' Best and Craziest Fighting Game Franchise

Quote
For the most part Power Instinct strayed little from the proven Street Fighter II formula but managed to introduce some genuine charm into the fold (the final boss / old lady’s slightly younger sister Octane is a playable character and one of her attacks involves throwing her dentures at opponents).
It sounds zany and silly on paper but the play experience is surprisingly solid.
Power Instinct has become a staple franchise in Japan where it spans 6 games, novels, soundtracks, calendars etc.
