Game industry giants win case against PATENT TROLLS..
« on: September 30, 2014, 10:00:33 am »
Recently Sega with several other game companies like Activision, Blizzard, EA found themselves sued over facial and lip sync technology that was patented by a company called McRO...
They lost,

However Blizzard released a statement concerning this suit..
Quote

"We will aggressively defend our investments in the innovative franchises at
Activision Publishing and Blizzard Entertainment, as we did in this case with
Call of Duty, Skylanders and StarCraft II, from entities whose sole purpose is
to use patent litigation to hold innovative companies captive for monetary
gain."
Patent trolling seems to becoming a problem that big companies can't ignore anymore. It will be intrestingto see if they lobby the government to change some of the rules of patents..

Between patent trolls and the constant patent suits between Apple and Google/Samsumg/everyone else, I suspect the patent laws will finally be looked at. The patent and trademark laws are all incredibly outdated at this stage.
