My first answer would probably be an MMO. For some reason real player company works well for me at those moments.
Buut, sadly there arent many good ones and the ones I play are usually played with others in sync. I mean that I like to go through them with friends so I cant play them when they're not on. Or at least it feels wrong to.
If it aint that, itll most likely be a nintendo game; a main mario game usually does the trick.
What games do you guys play during a bad mood though? I'm looking for a tip somewhere so perhaps it'll help.

When I'm mad, I typically will reach for Just Cause 2 and just go around causing trouble. If I'm feeling sad, I typically watch a TV show or a movie that I like rather than playing games, but a feel good game for me would probably be Jet Set Radio or... lol, Just Cause 2.

The Fallout series. Something about killing mutants, raiders, and ghouls while listening to retro music always relaxes me.

Football Manager. It sucks me right in.

Everybody loves spreadsheets dawg.

Something relaxing like a point and click adventure tends to do it for me.

Big expansive open WRPGs also help a lot, because you can walk around and distract yourself without having to pay attention to plot.

Honestly there's many games that can give the right distraction, but there are few games to actually put a smile on the face during a bad mood. I just got rocket league recently and while its a lot of fun and... sucks me in, it's very competitive in that it gets me quite serious lol. Kinda makes you realize

Senran Kagura: Bon Apetit (PC / Steam): that'll put a smile on anyone's face. It's fanservice overload for a video game series that's known for being fanservice.
