Ex-Rare developers recently started a new studio called Playtonic, and the first game that they're making is a sequel in everything but name and characters to Banjo-Kazooie. They also got Grant Kirkhope and David Wise to compose music for the game. A Kickstarter is going on now and it reached its goal within just 40 minutes and is on its way to reach every stretch goal it currently has. Lots more info and a couple of WIP music tracks on the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival)
The game is coming to Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U. If it reaches its £1.000.000 stretch goal (which it likely will) the game will be released on all platforms simultaneously.

Surprised people payed for this, the art style looks bad.

It looks fine to me. And people really, really want Banjo Threeie. The gameplay footage is also from just three months of work, so it's not like they're done with it.

Looks like a super cheap, crappy Chinese CGI used for low budget infomercials. If that's good to you, cool. I just don't like that look. I'll wait till I see more before I care about this game.

Yeah, the designs are god awful. But hey, the controls look smoother than any 3d sonic game ever already!

I have a feeling im gonna love this game. Even the rediculous designs have some charm in them

Game itself looks fun, but "crappy Chinese CGI used for low budget infomercials" pretty much describes the character designs. They don't look bad, just generic.
-
I like the character designs.

The character designs remind me of Chameleon Twist 2.

This thing is sorta making me happy. Honestly apart from the 3d mario games platformers have taken a nosedive in popularity. But imho its always been something wrong or missing in the platformers that didnt succeed. Also perhaps the budgets shrunk im not sure. I used to love spyro the dragon, crash bandicoot, ratchet n clank and sly games. But they all sort of dissapeared or became very low budget games. Despite nintendo being the king of platformers now, they mostly make em in 2d and the only real big 3d platformer is mario. I want more of it and this will hopefully be that.
Oh yeah sonic, well maybe this or next year

They actually announced a Ratchet & Clank reboot at last E3 in which the story follows that of the movie. They were supposed to show it later that year, but it still hasn't shown up. So hopefully it'll be at this year's E3.

Looks rubbish and something like one would have expect to have seen on a 3DO in the 90's
-
Games like this and Tembo aren't uber brilliant iconic amazing, but I like that sort of stuff.

Rachet and Clank are like kiddie 3rd person shooter games, not really platformers.

It's more like a mix between the two genres if anything. And the games are more aimed at teens than kids if anything. The games were also generally rated T before the E10+ rating came along.
-
I think it looks fine. I don't want to comment on the actual graphics in terms of technical achievement because it's brand new, but the characters look okay to me.

Makes me wonder what kind of audience the Ratchet and Clank movie will mostly get?
-
I've backed it and looking forward to it.
The graphics look fine to me as they're going for the same sort of art style as their old Nintendo games.

Finally coming to Switch, but too bad it's digital only.

It's not a bad game, i'd recommend it for any Banjo fan. I'm still going through it and am having a lot of fun with it.

I might pick this up when the price sees a big drop. I will probably only play a few hours worth, but I want to check it out.
