Ryo Hazuki and Kazuma Kiryu were born in 68.. twin brothers?
« on: February 11, 2010, 06:45:51 pm »
Stats:

Ryo Hazuki

Age 18 -Shenmue 1 (41 present)
Height 176 cm (5' 9")
Weight 65Kg (143lbs)
Blood Type O
D.O.B. 29th November 1968
Place of Birth Yokosuka, Japan

Kazuma Kiryu

Age 41
Height 184cm (6' 1")
Weight 88kg (193.6lbs)
Blood Type O
D.O.B. June 17, 1968
Place of Birth (????) Raised Sunflower Orphanage Kamurocho, Japan

I just realized Ryo and Kazuma were born in the same year.  They share the same blood type, too?  Hmm...  Orphanage records error for Kazuma could explain the D.O.B. difference.

Is there anything that would definitively rule them out as brothers?

Kind of interesting, but I have no idea why you would think they are brothers.

First off, they are not even from the same universe, and second of all, it is just a coincidence. Blood types are not always shared with brothers either.

Do you mean Twins?

Theres not much to go off really, Aki-at, Sega Uranus and Me were all born within a few days of eachother, but we certainly aren't brothers.

I doubt there is any connection, but like you said in the other thread, it would be cool if there was some references to Shenmue events/characters in Yakuza etc. Even if it was just mentioning an old gang from the 80s called the Mad Angels or something.

The only way they could be brothers is with different mothers since they were only born five months apart.

Edit: Oh yeah, just saw your note about possible orphanage error in date of birth.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I meant "twin brothers".

There is no real reason they would be brothers it is just interesting speculation to entertain the possibility in case in the future the two universes would twist somehow.

I know there is no statistical significance in the birth year and blood type being the same, but it is kind of curious that Sega chose to give them the same birth year. I never noticed that until now.

Like I said earlier, Ryo in SASR might be the beginning of a trend of using the Ryo character in games outside of Shenmue to tease the series back.

It would be the most awesome fan service to have a mystery character that fits the bill of Ryo in Yakuza 5 and just kind of leave it in question as a big tease.

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could play as him in Yakuza 5?

No. He might not even survive in the end of Shenmue III, so why break both games stories like that?

As an extra that has nothing to do with the story, I would still be against this. Yakuza and Shenmue are barely anything alike.

And Ryo is only in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing because of fan demand. If it were SEGA's choice soley, I doubt he would be in.

I agree it is a stretch, but their might be some marketing reason for doing it like in the case of SASR.  Yakuza 5 is going to need something that breaks with the series tradition to keep it fresh. I'm guessing at least a playable female fighter.

I thought Yakuza 4 was really mixing up things a lot? And what about Kenzan? I agree though a female character should be considered.

I don't know if I would want him as a playable character, but like I said in the thread on Sega.com, I would have loved to see Sega do some kind of shared universe like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, where every Sega IP co-existed in some way.

They wouldn't necessarily have to cross over with playable characters or anything, but the example I used earlier, maybe Kazuma meeting someone talking about the violent gangs on the harbour like Mad Angels, or someone watching pro-wrestling on TV and Wolf Hawkfield is the champ or something. Heck, they could even have something as minor as a Comic book from Comix Zone sitting in a newsagent or something.
