Daredevil - Marvel Cinematic Universe gets brutal
« on: April 10, 2015, 07:15:27 pm »
So the first season of Marvel's first Netflix show, Daredevil, was put up today. Marvel's Netflix shows are meant to show the street level heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I've watched three episodes so far, and while it's hard to compare to Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD due to its difference in tone, I'd say it's the best live action Marvel show yet. It might even beat The Winter Soldier when it comes to fighting scenes, which are far more brutal in this than any other movie or show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The show has a TV-MA rating, meaning that there's plenty more bone breaking and blood here. Not that nudity and swearing gets much worse than PG-13, but when it comes to violence it seems to manage to up itself when it comes to gore each episode. It's no Hannibal or Walking Dead(which are too gross for me), but it's still pretty dark and brutal.

Anyway, I really like this show and if you like street level superhero stuff then I recommend watching this. While it is tied to the MCU, there's no need to watch any other movies or shows set in it to watch this. Not sure how well it compares to the original comic, but on its own it's incredibly good. All of season 1 was released on Netflix earlier today, so you can watch it on there.

Since Daredevil is the few Marvel heroes I do read so its good that the show isn't terrible. I'll talk more about what I think after I finish, I hear its one of those 'till it ends' sort of shows.

What Daredevil violent? Never.

Can we get a Punisher show now, please netflix.

I love blood and gore, so I think I'll check this out. Vincent D'Onofrio is awesome, so I'm sure he's great in this.

I actually quite liked the Director's Cut of the Ben Affleck Daredevil, one of my guilty pleasure superhero movies (I only feel guilty because I know so many people hate it, I actually enjoy it).

The direction in fighting is really well done, like everyone fights in a believable way and there is a sense of 'danger' even tho you know deep down inside your hero won't die. But they still captured a sense of danger, something that CW can learn with Arrow who all fight in this really scripted way against eachother.

Saw the first episode, I liked it. Bit funny to see this hard edged show referencing the slick and more family friendly Avengers events.

I would like to watch this actually, might be the show that pushes me to finally get a Netflix account.

I hope this leads into a good Punisher TV series as well as other street level guys. I find them mostly more interesting than the capes in Marvel. That and the Supernatural dudes, would like to see a batshit crazy Ghost Rider TV series.

The only thing that's a bit iffy for me so far is that Kingpin looks to fat to be muscular but not fat enough to be 'Holy shit he's HUUUUUUGE'.

Daredevil actually is one of five Netflix MCU shows that focuses on street level superheroes. The rest of them are going to be these:

- A.K.A. Jessica Jones
- Luke Cage
- Iron Fist
- The Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist cross-over)

I finished it up the other day and really enjoyed it.

Probably the best adaptation Marvel's come out with to date. The mini-series format has the focus that most television series lack (every episode is driving the multiple plot threads forward), and manages to provide the kind of gradual character development that just doesn't happen in a feature film.

It was like binging through a really solid 2 year run of a comic, with the typical film being a six issue, one and done trade paperback.

Watched upto episode 3.
That penultimate scene, gore blimey, this really is making way for the Punisher I feel.
It's been a bit of a slow burn from the first two episodes but really starting to pick up now, loving it so far.

Started watching it this weekend. Love the pace and tone. I'm at Ep5. Great series so far. Marvel's killing it lately.

Let me just say that I had reservations on the Kingpin but daaaamn does D'Onofrio kill it as the character.

The conclusion to episode was brilliant.

I'm a bit apprehensive that they're changing the show-runner, but it's writers of the first season taking over, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

I feel that the show runs too slow with drawn out plots that lots of people wouldn't really care about. Its not terrible, but cutting a few plots  and focusing more on better characters could have made it more interesting. Doesn't kill the show, The Wire is one of my favorite shows and I felt it did this too (following people I didn't care about). Thankfully the show has characters that are good enough to push it forward regardless of these lame-o characters.

Really dislike the needless 'gore' violence. Like, Fisk slamming someone's head with his car door till the person was decapitated? Why? That isn't even physically possible and could have had the same 'impact' if he just caved his head in off screen. Or Daredevil torturing people for information, its just too grimdark for the sake of it.
