Title: Jet Set Radio
Post by: Yoyo on February 09, 2010, 05:36:13 pm
Obviously my favourite Sega series of all time. It's just perfect. The gameplay, music, everything... and let's not forget the mastermind of the streets, DJ PROFESSOR K!

I felt the camera was weak in the first one and the second was too easy. Panzer Dragoon is much better.

The camera in the first one really gets annoying when you have to aim some jumps, a second analogue stick would have done wonders for it. I guess we can get this when it gets released on XBLA/PSN? Please?  :afroman:

I feel the first one is far too clunky, I like how Future is set up a lot more.

I can't decide which one I like better, they are both really excellent. The police chief from JSR is a milion times cooler than JSRF's dropkick.

I have only played the original Jet Grind Radio on Dreamcast, but I'm dying to play the sequel.

I finished the first one at least 5 times now, it's my favourite Dreamcast game.

I remember when it came out I was doing ym GCSE exams and for art we had to do a graffiti project. I blatantly plagarised the jet set radio cover but scored a B.

The second one is a game I got about a year ago, I have enjoyed what I have done so far but I gave up on the pyramid level as I couldn't reach anything.

Listen to this man!

Although I like Cube as much too, probably a bit more.

The game itself was one of my favourite on Dreamcast (Liked a few others more though, name Sonic Adventure and Shenmue) and loved every moment of it, although the final boss was pretty weird. Really liked the graphical style at the time. Oh and what everyone else said, a nice soundtrack to boot.

I played through the first one on Dreamcast. Big fan of the art style and music.  Definitely one of my top games for the system.
I've got the second one, but I'm waiting to finish playing through the first Halo before I start it up.  It's my girlfriend's xbox, so it hasn't been at my place for too long, but I did manage to play through Panzer Dragoon Orta before starting up Halo.

One of my fav game ever, carachters' design music and gameplay, all awesome. I love both the games and I spent a lot of hours on dreamcast making my own tags, you have to admit it was addicting =)
I hope will be released on xbl maybe with something to do in coop... together with space channel 5 of course lol

I'd be pretty happy with a collection of SEGA games including anything that was released post 16 bit era.
I've got tons of versions of Sonic 2. Bring on the Saturn/Dreamcast Collections. I know there are issues with emulation, but ports can be done too.

The best moment of JSR was when my friend and I discovered you can go onto the internet with the Dreamcast down load JPEGs to the Memory card and then upload them to the game to spray on the walls... How fucking cool is that?!

Needless to say Tokyo was covered from top to bottom in filth and naked woman by the end of the day...

Onishima really had something to be pissed about when we were finished I tells ya!

Quality Controlled.
Everything is always double-checked and priced. User-made content is a joke. Remember LBP with Sony deleting thousands of user-made levels just because?

I love both games.  Although I wouldn't say either one is perfect, they are right up there as my favorite games of all time.  The second one I thought had improved level design for more continuous grinds, but I did miss the gestures for writing graf in the first one.  Smilebit was on fire.  Just brilliant style and pure exuberance.

JSRF is by far the better game in almost every area , bar the police Chief (who was pants and underused compared to the chief inthe 1st game)

I agree, I also much prefered JSRF, But they under used the police guy in that, and also the tag system for the large tags was cool in the original.

Title: Re: Jet Set Radio
Post by: Barry the Nomad on February 14, 2010, 02:50:28 pm
It's sort of the ultimate version of the game.

You get the additional US/EURO levels, but the characters retain their superior Japanese voices. I believe you get every music track, so Dunny Boy Williamson Show (which is absent from the US/EURO version) is included as well as all the US exclusive tracks (Jurassic 5, Mix Master mike, Rob Zombie, etc) and the EURO exclusive tracks (Recipe for the Perfect Afro, etc.). The timer shows the milliseconds and you have more graffiti than the original Japanese version.

Still, if you have the US and original Japanese version, De La Jet Set Radio isn't a must own.

I've seen De La Jet Set Radio for 40 bucks in one of my shady sites about 2 years ago. It was sold in like 4 days, otherwise I would have got it.

One special edition I would love though is Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack.

NCSX has it brand new for $58.
The soundtrack CD is pretty cool, but the other extras aren't really that great.

Yeah I know! It would cost 70 with shipping.
But when I go to the shipping options I get a small error message bellow:

Sometimes NCSX posts their inventory on eBay too.
Maybe see if it's up for auction there, and try ordering it that way. Might avoid whatever issue's going on.

It just sped the whole game up for , JSR is painfully slow in comparison (not helped by the 30 fps)  . That and the far bigger worlds and better stage design makes JSRF the better game for me

I thought that the original JSR had much more color. It may seem like nothing, but it really makes the game more joyful.. The analog movements to tag walls also were a lot of fun.

On the other hand, JSRF finally got rid of the time limits and was, as mentioned, sped up.

Yep, like i've said so many times, both games feel unique and diferent, but I can't say I like one better tahn the other. I used to love the first much more than the second, but after really giving JSRF a good try recently (well a year or two ago), I ended up deciding I liked it as much as the first one.

Whenever I go back to the original JSR I am a little let down that the boost grind and trick grind sytem isn't present in the game. I think that was one of the best additions to JSRF.

If there ever was to be another JSR/F made I'd really like to see the art direction lean more towards the brighter pallete of the orignal JSR game. Future was cool but I am not into the gritty style that it introduced.

I never really played Jet Set Radio Future. But I wanted to try.
The funny thing about it is that it seemed much more open-world and tagging was made simpler.

The soundtrack wasn't as good methinks. At least the bits I heard.
But that Concept of Love song was pretty good.

Call me crazy, but I'd love to see the next JSR game set in the wild west. Call it "Steam Dream Rodeo"! :D I'm kidding.

But a wild west game with JSRF mechanics would be rather fun.

In high school, a buddy and I drew mock art for a video game that we envisioned called Steamgear Brigand which followed a gang of teenage outlaws who stole horses, robbed trains and battled the evil sheriff. Good times...

This is actually one of the most awesome ideas I've heard in a while..

As for the talk about JSR/F soundtracks, I just played so much more JSRF that the songs are burned in my brain. I can't remember quite well the ones in JSR.

Yeah, the JSR/JSRF soundtracks are all on my iPod, but I'd really like to get my hands on the physical CDs. Unfortunately a lot of the ones on ebay are bootlegs, and the legit ones are $40+
