On April 8th, the day before my birthday.

Hopefully a beefed up phone with some good stuff.

Spoilers: multitasking.

Spoilers: multitasking.
Then they will patient it like multitouch.
-
Patient? You meant patent? They patented multitouch? There are other phones with multitouch I think?
-
Patent, yes. I think I might take a nap.
Yes, even before Apple used it, but they patent the gesture. How? I have no idea.
-
I hope they bring back the "double tap to bring up the volume slider" option that 3.0 killed. Seriously, if you have a 1G iPod touch, it's nearly impossible to change the volume of a game unless you exit, enter Music, play a song, change the volume, pause the song, exit music, relaunch the game.
I'm not one to hate Apple, but I was really pissed off about this omission. Not even a menu option for "1G mode".

Weird. I would have thought the volume would work the same as the iPhone, where you just use the buttons on the side.
-
iPod Touch 1st Gen didn't have the side buttons. Instead, one would double tap the home button and a mini box with the volume would pop up (wether music was playing or not). Now, music must be playing for it to come up OR you have to alter the volume within an app's volume settings (which some apps don't have or have badly designed sound options)

Awesome, my 3g contract has been up for about a month now but I am holding off a 3gs to see what the new phone will provide.
It needs multitasking, I was considering a palm pre for a while (aren't they going out of business now) but the airmouse function on my iphone is too important for me to give up.

Also the phone is pretty weak. I hope they 'spruce it up' and add multitasking. My phone contract is not up till next year :( , butttttttt I heard there is a 'upgrade' plan, you pay I think 100 dollars extra. Still beats 520 for a Nexus one.
I wish ATT would offer a contract option on that phone .

- Xbox Live sort of gaming service with achievements.
- iAd adverts for free apps. 60% of revenue goes to developers.
- Multitasking. Though with push notification. Meaning that twitter and facebook apps won't have pop up with the info. Can run Pandora and skype in the back.
- Java and Flash? Steve said "no"
Steve on why they don't have unsigned apps:
"You know, there's a porn store for Android. Anyone can download them. You can, your kids can. That's just not a place we want to go."
Does not look happy about that porn store on Android market place. Wonder if he will censor porn on iPad?
iPod Touch 3rd Gen and iPhone 3GS gets it this summer. Older models can't run multitouch.
iPad gets the update in Fall.

A helpful photo from Gizmodo:

Being a 1st gen Touch user, the smaller (stupider) things are pretty cool. Wallpaper, create playlists and folders definitely. The game achievements sounds cool too.
-
iPhone OS 4 looks pretty impressive.
-
Is there a fee for the new firmware?
-
Free for iPhone users, $10 or more for iPod Touch users.
I'm really hoping they cut the price for 1st and 2nd gen iPod Touch users, as we won't be able to utilize all the features.
-
I was expecting a fee, but I wasn't expecting them to differentiate the users. That's odd.
-
iPhone users already have to pay an expensive cell phone bill. It's only fair.
-
How much of that actually goes to Apple?
-
Lets say...
A lot? ;p
-
I don't know. What I know is that Apple has exclusivity contracts with certain carriers. If they get money past that is beyond me.
