Title: Good News on Anarchy Reigns
Post by: Randroid on June 02, 2012, 11:22:12 pm
Hey Everyone,

I have some good news about AR.

I work Saturdays at EB Games (Canadian version of Gamestop). We have TVs that play game trailers.

At the beginning of every month, we change the disk that contains the trailer roll. Rule of thumb is that they play the trailer for games coming out a month or two later.

Well today is June 2nd, we got a new trailer disk and what did it contain? AN ENGLISH FULL GAME TRAILER FOR ANARCHY REIGNS.

Oh man I was cheering it on, trust me. Especially since it was Anarchy Reigns, and not Max Anarchy.

Now as an EB Games employee I can tell you that our system still has it listed for preorder for July 3rd. The fact that the trailer is on our Monthly disk of game trailers means that Sega has forked up a lot of money for the marketing opportunity (companies pay big bucks to have trailers play in the store) and that they have done this recently.

Basically, expect a Western Release, and soon. Probably late summer or early fall (at the very latest).

If you don't believe me, go into any EB Games on the West Coast (I personally work in vancouver), hang out there for a while and you'll see the trailer play.

I've always commented on the post here on Segabits, but I just created this account so that I can post this. Hopefully this news can help you decide whether to import or not.

Keep the Faith!

Hey man, welcome to the forums and thats great news!

I miss EB Games when it was all over the US. Thats where I bought a lot of my Dreamcast games in the golden age. Specifically both PSO titles and SA2.

I'm guessing they paid a lot of money for the spot prior to the layoffs/restructuring, or they planned to pay for the spot and forgot to tell the person in charge of that to not pay/submit for it. Corporate structures don't tend to communicate as well as they should.

I do hope SEGA makes mention of the game at E3 with a release date, but I can't honestly say I'd miss the game if it didn't launch this year. I do hope it releases in the West eventually, but it'll have a tough time competing for attention in the over-saturated retail market if they sell it for $60.

I miss EB Games when it was all over the US.

Same!!! I also miss Babbages and Funcoland! Stupid Gamestop swallowed them all whole...  :'(

Funcoland was AWESOME. Bought my Saturn there, used, and a TON of Saturn and Genesis games. All for like $2 each. Still have the paper Genesis cart holders from Funcoland.

I was thinking that too. They made their restructuring statement not too long ago so there is a possibility that this was slotted just before the word from Sega East.

The trailer is the same one as on the Ebgames website, except the one in-store does not post a release date (the trailer on the website still does, and hasn't been updated since Jan). Anarchy Reigns did have a release date set, so does this mean that they gave us a trailer with no release date  with the full intention of promoting the game before they knew that it was to be changed to TBC?

I mentioned our pre-order system because they are usually pinpoint accurate on release dates and changes. Any delays/cancellations get immediately posted even before they are announced.

I can't speak for American stores but Canadian ones are still taking pre-orders, and are still slated for July 3rd. Sega has updated the date of Aliens Colonial Marines with us, so if they are cancelling AR, they should have informed us so that we can update our system (regardless of them making a public announcement for it).

Buzz through the store is that if they have Video Advertising and a release date, it is DEFINITELY getting released eventually. Sega will be doing something unheard of now if they decide to drop it indefinitely...but then again with Sega, you never know :'(

If I hear/see anything else I'll post.

EB Games is Gamestop's brand in Canada. Same website, same store layout, same sales practices.

^Ditto in Australia. It used to be Electronics Boutique, then just became EB Games. As you said, it's Gamestop in every way except the name.

But when EB Games was still in the US, it was way less annoying to shop at an EB store.

What's the difference? I don't remember much difference between EB Games and Electronic Boutique in Aus.

I think it depends on the staff/store manager more than anything. I used to have a great manager working at my local EB, then he left and got replaced by some dropkick, so now I only ever shop online for games.

Not the case here :(.
Warranty pushes, used game incentives, all games opened up before you buy them, pushes to buy memberships, etc....

What's the difference?

See below.

Warranty pushes, used game incentives, all games opened up before you buy them, pushes to buy memberships, etc....

None of the above. I remember used games being there, but they weren't selling titles that just came out a month ago for $5 less than a new copy.

I've never had anyone at an EB try to give me the hard sell. Usually they will mention things like warranty or pre-orders and stuff, but it's never been like a used car salesman or anything.

And as for second hand, eh, I've thought those were a rip-off for a long time, you can get the game new for nearly the same price. Gutted stock is just something that seems to be common with all retailers in Australia, not sure if it's the same in US. Upper management at retail seems to think that customers need to be able to bring something to counter or they don't enjoy the shopping experience which means the stores need to open up all the games and put empty boxes on show. I think it's a terrible practice personally. If I really want a sealed game, you can ask for them at the counter too I think.

Not... really. Although you aren't too far off. it's closest to something like MadWorld or God of War I guess. It's a 3D Brawler that also has a strong focus on the competitive multiplayer.
Check out the demo if you get a chacne.

I'm not too sure, on one hand the game is complete. On the other hand SEGA America was losing money left right and centre. But at least the Japanese version has both English and Japanese subtitles and voice overs. Worse comes to worst, you can import it straight from Japan.

Importing means buying something from outside of the country you live in. The game has a solid Japan date so anyone living outside of Japan can import the title and play it.

Sadly it is not confirmed if it will be region free for Xbox 360, so not sure if you will be able to play it.

Virtual On: Force was a JP only release and it was region free on Xbox360 (even with no english), so there's precedence.

Hearing no word from E3 is depressing me though.

but good or bad, you never know with Sega. Anything is possible.

I got my copy of Virtual On Force from play-asia. You can probably import it from them or others. However, I personally, am going to hold out until the very last moment as I still have a preorder where I work.

If they ever take AR off the listing from the system where I work, then I'll know for sure (and so will all of you).

The absolute best case scenario that I can still believe to be plausible is that they contracted the trailer to be played as the cheapest method of keeping the game in the gamer media without confirming or denying a release date (the trailer does not have a release date), while they figure out when is the best time to release it and maximize profits.

If the worst case scenario occurs and they drop a western release altogether and come out and say as much, your best bet to get the game is to find an online asian game importer and get the JP copy once someone has confirmed that the Xbox version is region unlocked (or buy a PS3).

Naw this guy appears to be selling the western version, which none of us know what's going to happen as far as its release.

If you are trying to import the game, make sure it says that it is an Import or Japanese version of the game (as that is the only one that has been confirmed 100% so far).

play-asia.com is a safe bet, though Max Anarchy is damn expensive right now. Probably because they want to make some money on Americans and Europeans who are afraid that the game won't release.

I recently talked to a GameStop employee regarding my preorder for Anarchy Reigns and what the official release date was. He told me that the July 3rd date isn't happening anymore and they just have a January place-holder date for the game. So Anarchy Reigns still has no official release date in the West as far as I know. I'm hoping for a late summer, or early fall release. That way SEGA has more of a chance with this new IP against some of the bigger titles coming out later this year.

Yeah hopefully they release it before winter. The original release date really was the best one since there are very few titles to compete with it. It's incredibly annoying that Sega continues to ignore everyone who asks about it. I've been on twitter tweeting to the Sega rep as they respond to other people's questions and it's particularly annoying to see them ignore all of the Anarchy Reigns tweets in real time as they answer everyone else.

They're really shooting themselves in the foot by delaying. The people that were definitely going to buy it are going to import and the people that could have possibly bought it are going to have to choose between it and the more well known titles that come out later in the year.

Zavvi, Amazon, Play, Game and Gamestation all still list it for July 6 in Europe. There was even some talk about a Sega rep confirming it's German release, and then there's also Sega's Scandinavian publishers who are still listing it for it's European date.

Despite me still wanting to tell myself that this is just a matter of miscommunication or slow updating schedule, I'd think that after over three weeks, Sega would have at least given wind to European retailers and publishers. This is really making me nervous, I'm on the verge of importing but I don't want to use too much money if it's still coming to a more accessible area.

Here's a link for anyone interested in seeing exactly how the Sega rep confirmed it for Germany: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/620291-anarchy-reigns/63037856

A user in that topic translated the article and provides a link to it.

I'm with you Cadence, I want to hold out hope that the game will come before importing due to the extra cost. If a US date is not announced soon then I will import, but I'll wait a bit longer to see. Most import sites have already sold out of preorders that include the Bayonetta code, so I figure I may as well wait anyway. If Bayonetta is made available later as paid DLC and there's other DLC, people that import will also have to get Japanese PSN cards if they want the DLC. I love Platinum Games and I'm willing to go through the extra hassle of getting the game, I just want to hold out hope a bit longer that Sega doesn't completely disappoint their fans.

We'll find out eventually.

I'm getting the impression that SEGA and Platinum Games must've had a falling out. I mean, I noticed that since Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance and that Nintendo published title were revealed to be done by PG, Anarchy Reigns vanished.

We are about 3 weeks away from the "placeholder" launch.

Game that was set to fail will fail slightly more. Peachy.

In any case, market is crashing, doubt it was going to make any sort of impact (Hey, if Max Payne 3 and Dragon's Dogma are failing horribly, doubt Anarchy Reigns would have enjoyed any sort of success)

Dragon Dogma is Capcom's biggest production ever, they have never poured as much money in a title as that.

Max Payne 3 would do quite well if it was not a AAA title from Take Two, it did 440k on release in America. But consider what Take-Two got from titles like Red Dead, which was 1.5 million. Surely they expected more from Max Payne 3.

Think it is just an indication that the market is contracting though, this was the worst May since 2006 or 2005 I believe. Basically everything is going to bomb bomb booomba bomb!

I'm sure RE 6 is bigger and I don't really think DD is doing that bad . It be a million seller for sure and no doubt be another Lost Planet 2 and keep on selling in ok-ish numbers for weeks and weeks . May Payne is doing ok too , its just no in the sort of numbers RS are used to imo
