It would be an interesting callback to these games if Sega (or some third-party developer on behalf of Sega) revamped the franchise.

I heard Dotemu has asked SEGA for Shinobi, but SEGA hasn't replied anything.

Still there are many Shinobi-inspired game incoming.
Moonrider is one of them.

Depends if it's Musashi from the games or a future Sega Cinematic Universe Musashi who might be different from the games.

But yeah, official Marvel comic of "Shinobi vs Spider-man" or DC with "Shinobi vs Batman" would be brilliant.

This is what I had in mind if Shinobi takes modern approach.

Gives me more Ninja Gaiden vibes than Shinobi. I dunno maybe I'm just too much of a Sega fanboy to accept substitutes.

That does look good for a Shinobi movie. Ninja in the American city!

Nah, it's more like Shinobi III.
Even the Nintendo-based fansite compared it to Shinobi instead of Ninja Gaiden :

I remember my friend ask me to accompany her to watch this movie with her since the she loved the main cast.
I was skeptical at first since the main cast is a famous Asian singer but his acting is good and the movie is turned out pretty great for a ninja movie.
The way those ninja enemies whisper and stalk are really creepy.

Okay, I watched it. It was a pretty cool Ninja movie. I can imagine a Shinobi movie in this style, though I imagine Sega/Paramount may want to keep at least a PG-13 rating on it. Or whatever rating the Streets of Rage movie will have.

They could keep the rating kids friendly if the enemies changed into robots.
Ninja robots like TMNT's Foot Soldiers.
Tokusatsu and superhero movies also usually do that.
Slashing human is taboo but slashing robots is okay.

I checked out some other ninja movies and I watched Ninja. The first 15 minutes were kinda tacky and for a movie called Ninja it only had two fully-robed ninjas, the later ninja only showing up in the final battle of the movie.

I've yet to see it's sequel Ninja II: Shadow of a Tear. These movies aren't as violent or as dark as Ninja Assassin, but still not afraid to show blood, just not gallons of it like Ninja Assassins had. If we ever get a Shinobi movie, I would love it to meet mid-way between these two movies.

Also, I just found out Enter the Ninja was the first of a trilogy so I'll watch them.

The trailers look decent. I'll put it on my watch list.

Also I remember TV Shows called "The Master" (1984) when I was a kid.
This TV series was a hit in my country and many Ninja-based toys appeared because of this TV series.
My school even had to forbid shuriken toys, afraid that it would hurt the kids when they're playing with it.

I wouldn't recommend 2009 Ninja movie and judging by the trailer to Shadow of a Tear I'm not that sold to commit to watch the sequels. Not enough ninjas if you ask me and that Namiko girl annoys me. For her training as the daughter of the sensei, complete damsel in distress material that it annoys me. It looks like she dies in Shadow of a Tear just to motivate the plot. That wasn't a spoiler, that's in the trailer!

I'd rather stick to Cannon Film's Ninja Trilogy. Even if Ninja III: The Domination was sub par.

I dunno what American Ninja I and II is like.

I watched those American Ninja movies but since it was long time ago other than V I forgot what's the story about.
V is memorable to me because it has Pat Morita in it.

If you don't mind Japanese ones, no masks, and non-modern setting, there are two :

The first is Shinobi : Heart Under Blade

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI7YVeFf3Ho

It's more battle of Ninja clan though, not a story about single Ninja fulfilling his mission.
They use every tricks necessary to make their clan is the best one.

The second is : Azumi

The story began with several students whose trained to be Ninja.
Later they learned the hard way that their job later was not just regular "Spying" ninja, but as "Assassins" Ninja.
It has a sequel (Azumi 2) but not as good as the first one.

Quote
A improvement patch to the Genesis version of “Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi.” The original game has one-hit kills, but now your character can take three hitpoints of damage.
Hitpoints are displayed in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Good idea, Japanese movies for Ninja movies.

How embarrassing to be Japanese, to be raised ninja and be the only person in the whole world to not know what a ninja does for a killing.
